I am thinking about buying a 1997 Jeanneau 42CC coming out of the charter fleet in the Caribbean but don't know much about them. Does anybody have any advice or can somebody provide me with problem areas I should look for? Are there any other 42CC owners out there and what do they like/dislike about these boats? I would appreciate any information I can get. Thanks

Hi. FYI, we bought one and love the boat. The new 42DS is a poor imitation (smile), but they have fixed some of the plumbing issues. Things to look out for... 1) the holding tanks are metal in the original boats, and can corrode over time, but the bigger issue is that the plumbing is literally "upside down" and prone to leaks and smells - be prepared to replace the entire system, 2) all plumbing fittings are METRIC - nightmare for replacement fitting and 3) inspect the standing rigging and through hulls carefully - be prepared to replace them. I'm the "female" of the pair and love the roominess below and the great galley and all of the cabinet space. He's 6' and can stand in the aft cabin. We BOTH love the separate aft shower (with a DOOR). If you'd like to talk about this, send us a reply and we'll share emails and correspond directly. Thx.
