Zoom Presentation hosted by the North West Venturers Yacht Club, Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey, North Wales.
An Introduction to Cruising the West Coast of Scotland from the Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point - Thursday 25th of February at 19.00hrs UTC.
Derek Lumb, who is the Celtic Section Secretary for the Cruising Association will repeat a talk given to its Celtic Section earlier this month which was originally part of a series of 5 sessions covering Ireland and the West Coast of Scotland.
Whether you venture from the Clyde or from the South Coast of England, your first cruising area will be from the Mull of Kintyre northwards. Most of the southern part of this area is in the sheltered waters of the Sound of Jura but as we head North and West we pass into the Firth of Lorne with more than half a dozen sea lochs branching off and the centres of Oban and Tobermory before passing out into the Passage of Tiree and the more exposed west coast of Mull with the islands of Coll and Tiree, Gometra and Ulva, the Treshnish Isles and the holy island of Iona plus the west coast of Mull, Jura and Islay. Whatever the weather there is somewhere to go in sheltered waters and of course this is the centre of the production of the distinctive Island Malts with 8 distilleries on Islay and, with those on Jura, at Oban and Tobermory, you will be spoilt for choice.
The format of the talk will be a presentation of about an hour followed by the opportunity to ask questions or start a discussion taking the total meeting time to ~90 minutes.
