First time on this FORUM I want to share this extremely positive benefit. After 40 years of sailing and taking care of the dishes after family and friends, I decided to install a dishwasher. I never sit on the navigation seat to navigate. The purpose of this place was more in former days to have a dedicated place for the captain and his/her sea charts. After measuring I find out that a dishwasher standing on the floor was the optimal solution. By lifting up the navigation table 5 cm (2 inch) it was enough of space . My decision was to use a 45 cm wide machine from Italy brand SMEG. The inverter from Victron could source max 1600 watt continuously and the SMEG has max 1450 watt consumption. 1450 watt are only need during heating up water and drying. By connecting to hot water for water inlet are less Amp hour needed. By replace the back panel in two wardrobes with white plywood I got material for a front. Totally I think the consumption are about 25-50 Ah and water consumption 6-7 L. Idling the motor at 700 rpm and the alternator charge up to 190 Amp. This will be another topic next time from Damen.

Excellent installation. I wish I could find space for a washing machine (clothes) myself.
A few years ago I met a couple that had just bought an ex-boatshow demonstration boat that wanted for nothing; Air-Con, Genset, Washing machine, dishwasher, etc., etc. It was their first boat and they were casting off for a long term adventure across Europe.... Not before however the removal of certain items they didn't feel were needed.... Washing machine, dishwasher, etc., etc.
I hadn't the heart to tell them that one of the down sides of long term cruising is the constant hunt for laundrettes that can be trusted. Over the years I have had entire batches of clothes ruined by washing at the wrong temperature, batches returned still damp and in danger of going mouldy and of course batches that weren't ready on the agreed day resulting in an extra night stop.
Who said sail boat cruising had to be basic?

Very ergonomic and looks beautiful! Especially knowing the technique of the SMEG company, such a dishwasher will work for years! When we set off on our maiden voyage, we had a choice to put us an integrated dishwasher and integrated washing machine or use this space for additional drawers. And we decided that extra space is more important when there is so little of it. We were very wrong. Especially with a washing machine, because we had the same situations as alenka wrote.

I remember when I was going through the process of ordering "Zanshin" I had Excel spreadsheets to list out the various options and the dishwasher option was so much more expensive than I'd expected so I removed that from my list. My friend told that I was idiot for spending such a large amount of money for a new boat and then being to cheap to add a bit of comfort. She was right. I love using my dishwasher and it actually uses less water than if I'd manually clean all those dishes in the sink.

That is a great idea and beautifully fitted. We considered having a dishwasher but felt that the bar would get more use. We were right but now you’ve given me the idea to put it somewhere else ...

Coleman dishes set is outstanding!!!! It has 4 heavy duty stoneware plates and comes with 4 coffee cups and 4 bowls, which are also the beautiful bright red stoneware color. The set also comes with all your silverware, 4 knives, 4 forks and 4 spoons all in a nice little pouch that rolls up and stows away in your canteen box very nicely! These are a great quality, are easy for me to clean with no running water, and are perfect for what we need. I am not worried about them breaking and they are pretty which is a great bonus!

What challenges did you encounter during the installation of the dishwasher on your sailboat, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was finding a dishwasher that consume max 1600 watts. My inverter is only at 1600 watts continuous true sinus. There I got a lot of help from pricerunner, which has filters for maximum effect on dishwashers. Otherwise, most of the challenges for me are to focus on what solutions are available and then finish with the best one. I wanted a machine that blends in with the rest of the decor. It took a while before I figured out that I take the back of the wardrobes that have the same type of wood as the rest of the interior to use as the front of the machine. There is no need to be afraid to do anything either. Everything in the boat has been put in place once upon a time. Then it should also be possible to remove the same if this is required. I connect 223 VAC with a loose plug at the navigation table. A T piece to the water. The drain is a fuel tank vent nipple mounted in the sink. Modified the nipple by making bigger holes in it. Good that the wastewater gets into the sink. Then I see that flushing works and there is no risk of sinking the boat. Consumption is 7 liters of water and about 50Ah when I run the quick program, which takes 27 minutes. This is usually enough. I usually wipe the dishes with napkins before I put them in the machine. I only need to run the engine for 15 minutes to recharge the consumed 50Ah if required. A bigger challenge is to have good charging for LFP. Now I have reached the finish line after four years with a water-cooled alternator. At 1400rpm it charges 225A continuously for several hours and it is completely cool in the engine compartment. The generator has a temperature of 42C / 107F At idle 100Amp and 1000 rpm 200Amp. Absolutely no slipping or rubber dust. The solution also means that there are no radial forces on the water pump. I will have complete ready kit solution without regulator for Yanmar 4JH5E soon after new year. The generator has no internal regulator. It is possible to use Balmar, Wakespeed or any other brand as a regulator. As long as it can deliver 5.5A to the field, any make can be used. The weakest link is the rectifierc. My rectifier is water cooled. Introductory price is €1790 Feel free to look at www.kimpower.seAttached picture is for a Volvo Penta. A gentleman nagging and beg me to make one for his Volvo. Soo, I did.
