Short question, but will no doubt prompt many answers...
But to help bit more info needed. EG What area do you moor in? eg Marina, River, Salt or Brackish water? There may also be different environmental regs in some locations as copper base may no longer be permitted

It is always good to ask lots of other boat owners at your location, I say ask lots because different owners will steer to one or another sometimes on price alone, others by experiance so get a good majority indication, as Mal has identified, different areas will use different products for a good effect. How the boat is used also makes a difference to the rate of fouling, boats that don't go anywhere often seem to attract things growing on the hull, barnacles clams and muscles don't swim as fast as boats, so if you keep moving little will attach to the hull ....... not a very useful comment , but you get the idea, the less you use it the more growth will occur whatever antifoul is used. Price of antifoul isn't a good indicator of how good it will work, in my area Seajet 033 works great, and is mid range price wise, but travel north or south about 50 miles and it doesn't perform so well. If you don't know what antifoul is already on the boat you might need to use a barrier / primer to ensure the new antifoul sticks well. Happy antifouling CB

hi sorry the boat is in a marina berth on the river hamble Southampton and used on a regular basis if this helps The hamble is not so bad as many areas as the water is relatively cold and will have at least some river water giving partial dilution from the salt especially toward Burlesdon. My experience is with sailing boats, for power you will need a harder antifoul so it doesn't get washed away if you regularly go more than 20knots or so. Presume you are able to fully raise your outboard out of the water? Would be worth giving Daniel Yeates at BHG Marine a call and ask his view www.bhg-marine.co.uk/

I went with Sea Hawk Biocop TF™Antifouling Paint on my MF795. No growth after 8 months, extremely happy. Regardless of what product you use, make sure they paint the engine mount, the engine bracket, trim tabs, and transducer. I got a quote the other day, they wanted $1,000 US to sandblast and paint. New the job would have only cost $300 US.

Fritz, I had the same problem with the engine brackets and lower unit- NC 895. Both brackets/trim pistons (Yamaha) are positioned too low at the stern. They are being damaged with growth/ barnacles. The engines need to be mounted higher to get both engines and brackets out of the water when docked but then there could be a problem to stay on plane and possible over heating. My brackets looked the same if not worse than yours.

Hey diddy, another consideration is if you are going to keep your boat in the water all the time or if you’re going to trailer or pull your boat for the winter. Some Antifouling will break down when exposed to air. I trailer my boat and pull it most most of the winter so I use an ablative antifouling from SeaHawk “CuKote”. It’s a semi-hard self polishing ablative antifouling and it’s also multi-seasonal.
Cheers, Ron

Very good self-polishing antifouling.I use it on my Merry Fsher 895.
