I intent to install a Furuno 1623 radar with dome in the mast on my SO 32. I wonder where to install the display: at the charttable or outside under the sprayhood (I don't like to install it at the steering place). Or is it possible to use the display at both places, which means that the cable need to interrupted.
I wonder how have done it at what are your likes and dislikes of your solution.

My chart plotter is located below, and I really wish they had put it at the helm. Because of this, I don't really use it. Instead, I use an older portable black and white GPS at the helm.
The problem with mounting navigation equipment down below is that you need a separate navigator to read it for you. I often sail alone, so this isn't possible. So the decision lies with your own sailing habits. If you always or very often sail with someone else who can either take the helm or do the navigating, then mounting the radar down below makes sense.
Good luck Don

Agree If you can get the Radar outside it is much, much better on a shorthanded yacht. Now new electronics are nitrogen filled , so waterproof, the need for protection from the elements is much reduced On our 34.2 we had a Furuno at the chart-table, but that meant when navigation was tricky I felt that I needed to be in 2 places at the same time We opted for an integrated E series unit on the 39i which installs in the back of the cockpit table, excellent for the radar and also for the chartplotter, having these integrate is expensive , but makes them fantastically useful Also think about AIS, especially if you sail in crowded waters, then at least know where the big ships are, you still obviously need to take care about fishing boats, other yachts etc etc, but AIS I find is much more instantaneous than Radar Malcolm

I don't have radar but do have AIS which I find a great innovation, (if interested there is a thread in this forum on this topic) particularly because if you have already spent the money on the chart plotter, it is so cheap to implement.
I have the chart plotter mounted at the helm and prior to installing I was trying to work out what the advantage would be in mounting it at the Nav table. So far I haven't seen any advantage if it were mounted down below. I think this is particularly true as pointed out by Malcolm, when things get a bit tricky and particularly at night.
Happy sailing,
Trevor

Well,
you all have me convinced to install de radardisplay outside. I don't like it to have the display on steering place as on longer trips I never sit down there. As I then run the autopilot and I take a place under the sprayhood. So I want to install the display on the instrument console above the entrance, but there also my steering compass (Plastimo Contest 130) is mounted. Does anyone have experience with deviation because of the radardisplay. close to the compass (15 cm)? My Raymarine depth sounder is also there mounted and gives not any deviation.
