Has anyone had a service on the saildrive leg (other than change the oil and O ring)? Even the local ZF agent is scratching his head as to how to go about it. I spoke to ZF themselves and it sounded frighteningly expensive (4 or 5 man-days work to get at the gaiters/seals as has to be partly done from inside and the engine has to moved). Be very interested to hear what other people's experiences were and whether they could recommend a good engineering company who knew how to tackle it without breaking the bank.
Regards Jim

Jim - were you ever able to get the unit serviced? Cost? And what is the recommended service interval (not oil change but the main gasket etc)? TJ

Hi Tom aplogies belated reply, havent logged in for a while. Short answer is no, and the gaiter has to be replaced every 7 years acoording to the manual. I will keep trying. Regards Jim

Jim - thanks. Per another post of mine, I bought the oil seals and assorted o-rings etc to service the sail drive leg itself (i.e. not the 360 degree rotational part). The plan is to service it during a haulout in December. Mine is a 2011 boat, so 10 years now without the 360 degree part being serviced. The seals look ok from inside the boat, but who knows what's really going on? I think the lack of service information on the 360 unit is really a big dropped ball by Jeanneau, Beneteau, and ZF Marine. When I've called people listed on the ZF site as service agents (whatever that means), I get the message that some simply don't service sail drives period, or are unaware of the 360 degree units, or aren't even working with ZF. When you are able to make the seal change, please photograph as much as possible.
A step by step guide would make an invaluable resource for others in the future and we can easily put it in the Hints and Tips section and let Beneteau cousin's about it too.

Malcolm - will do, but note that I'm talking about the saildrive leg, not the full 360 degree system. Also, there are a number of good You Tube videos showing saildrives being serviced. Given the time they've been in use by Yanmar and Volvo, many people have either had them fully serviced or done it themselves. Tom, Alchemyst, 45 DS , # 312
