Attachment DeletedAny thoughts on this, hull to matrix joint is cracking, not particularly good photograph but the dark line in the lower bilge shown is actually a crack, I am told in the gel-coat. Is this normal or signs of trouble to come.

Sorry the picture is not very clear. But this Is not the hull we are looking but a box section glassed into the hull as a an insert tray section, is this a deep structure crack or just a stress crack. Importantly is there any flexing of the keel to hull join?

Yes, looks like a 42DS. A closeup and arrow showing the crack would help.

Does this bottom section also have a drain to the bilge pit ? Not vissible on the picture . If not , clean the area and pour in a load of epoxy This is not a crack in the hull , but a joint of hull and box that released .

Hello. These are inserted boxes, they can be repaired in case of cracks. Sand cracks and fill them with epoxy, sand and finally apply Gelcoat. The floor surface is from the hull and has nothing to do with the used boxes. The frames are glued flat to the hull.
If you like, you can additionally protect the floor surface, provided there are no keel bolts, by laminating three layers of fabric with epoxy resin.

Thank you for all the replies. I was under the impression that the box sections were the "Matrix" that is bonded to the hull and was therefore worried if they were parting company could be signs of damage or a serious problem. Unfortunately I am not near the boat and with the travel restrictions it is not easy to get there and asses the size or depth of crack myself. From the replies it sounds like it is a fairly simple fix, I like the idea of a couple extra layers laminated in there also.

Thank you, that is brilliant shows it really well.
Can anyone tell me the make up of the ribs that are forming the bilge cavities are they an open box or some former, i.e. wood, encapsulated in GRP that are then bonded in place?
Cheers Ray
