Hi All, I have a 2003 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 32. I currently have a Gas Cylinder which is stuck in the well, I think. I have no diagram and haven't been able to contact the people I purchased the boat from. Has anyone encountered this problem before? How was it solved? My fear is that if I use a purchase to pull the Gas bottle upwards, lets say from the boom, I think the handle will break from the bottle. Then I will never be able to release it.
Thanks in advance.

The gas bottle isn't a tight fit on our 2003 SO32, so I guess it has somehow glued itself to the floor of the locker or something is tightly wedged down the side. Maybe put something non-damaging down the side of it and see if you can lever a bit of tilt into it to unstick it? Poor some warm fresh water into the locker?

Thanks mikebz, good suggestions! I'll have a go at the weekend.

Is the cylinder empty? It would be a good idea to ensure that there was no gas present before applying too much force. A broken tap and a bottle og gas could be very dangerous. Maybe the bottle has rusted and this is bonding it to the wall of the well. The conventional gas bottle is a snug fit on my boat, but to avoud the rust problem I use a stainless steel bottle.

Tony Burgess Tap is gently with a rubber hammer all the way around. The warm water suggestion is a good one too.

Thanks everyone!
Yes the gas bottle is empty, hence trying to get it out of the well.
Rubber mallet sounds like a good idea.
I have never seen the inside of the well, so I also have no idea if the bottle is the correct size, certainly fits snug.
If I'm not successful I'll post a few pics, and I'll update the thread regardless of the outcome.
Thanks

Perhaps a sparingly small spray with something like Sailkote before trying to lift it out?

Sloppy welding on the bottle seam will change the diameter and cause a binding point. Lateral wiggling and/or tapping with a rubber mallet can produce a little vertical movement. This may have to be repeated many times, but it has worked for me. When you buy a replacement bottle make certain the seams are smooth or better still, go to a material other than steel.

I'm assuming it's a Camping Gaz 907 cylinder? Where can you get a stainless version and do you get it refilled as opposed to replaced every time?

They look flash! All too big for an SO32 (locker takes a 907 Gaz cylinder, 2.72 kg of gas in a 250 mm high cylinder with a 202 mm diameter). Also in the UK I'm not aware of anywhere that will refill your cylinder, to get a full cylinder you normally have to exchange your old empty one which would hurt a bit in this case!

We have plenty of refilling sites here, certainly would not want to exchange it. Luckily it came with the boat on commissioning.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I managed to get it out quite easily after all, hot soapy water and a rubber mallet!
Thanks again!

That's good to hear. Our cylinder sits on a bit of plasticky/rubbery mesh, I guess this stops it from rusting itself to the base of the locker.
