Craig Macbeth who sails his Sun Odyssey 469 in the Med has just posted this information in our FB group, which will be of interest for those looking for high tech battery systems. "If anyone in the UK and EU is interested in the Firefly Oasis batteries I’ve got 2 pallets arriving in the next week (waiting to clear customs.)
I’ve heard a lot of positive comments from our US contingent and have been working for the last 3 months to get them imported to the UK, 5 of these on my 469 should massively reduce the need for shore power or generator in conjunction with my 600W solar.
I’ve set up a website for them, Macbethenergy.co.uk
I’m trying to keep the cost of the batteries as low as possible in general but if there’s some interest from the group I’ll see if I can make a group discount code.
Shipping can be organised by yourself or via the website which uses DHL express, in the UK it’s about £35 a battery and to EU around £50 I believe. The warehouse is in Bradford if that helps."

One bit of confusing data that came up is the physical size.
The size on the box is different to that on the battery. The size on the box is the size of the shipping box not the battery inside.

For cross-referencing purposes, Zaphod is I think what might be termed an early adopter of these batteries (relatively speaking) in these parts and has a thread on their installation and his early experience here: jeanneau.proboards.com/thread/8846/39i-battery-system-upgradeThat thread contains some useful insight on Zaphod's part about being systematic and paying close attention also to the battery charger, as part of such a upgrade.

Thanks for pointing this thread out.
I cannot workout if the Leochie batteries follow a similar design and build to the firefly or not; and if the significant price difference is simply down big corporation sales marketing... A bit like branded bake beans costing twice the price of supermarket own brand
Any using Leochie?

Thanks for pointing this thread out. I cannot workout if the Leochie batteries follow a similar design and build to the firefly or not; and if the significant price difference is simply down big corporation sales marketing... A bit like branded bake beans costing twice the price of supermarket own brand Any using Leochie? A lot of R&D went into the Firefly batteries. They were originally developed by Caterpillar for heavy duty applications. They built their own factory to make the carbon foam they use in the batteries. I doubt very much the Chinese knockoff company has access to that material. It would be interesting to see a comparison and some extensive testing done on the cheaper one.

I cannot disagree with you. Chinese are probably just trying to copy a recipe rather than putting any R&D into the development of their own product. I have had several very expensive Chinese batteries (for electronics) just expand to dangerous levels and had to be disposed of - They do tend to let their customers be their product testers.
Unfortunately, I cannot track down a supplier of Firefly in Greece; And people are already starting to report problems getting products delivered there from the UK post Brexit.
