So, Straight in the deep end. Here I am brand new forum member (and sailor for that matter) not even said hello. I have just, in a moment of madness brought on by senility, purchased a Sun Odyssey 349 2016 and I am straight in with a question. Has anyone attempted or fitted a Raymarine EV200 auto pilot with T1 mechanical linear drive unit. I have been told by a couple of chandlers that there is too little room to fit the mechanical linear drive unit. and it needs a hydraulic unit which needless to say doubles the price.
The EV 200 was the one recomended to me when I wrote to Raymarine but I think they are possibly only thinking only of the tonnage and not the specific boat. Do not want to purchase the kit to fit myself in case they are correct, so if anyone out there...........? I would be gratefull to hear.

I have the 34.2, and fitted the external wheel pilot which was simple. Recently I was down the back, and noticed that I have lots of room back there and it would be simple to change to the linear.
May I suggest that you take a cardboard tube, cut it to length and try it? All dimensions are easily available.

Mike.
Thanks for that, I like the cardboard tube idea make a lot of sense, I was going with the EV 100 originally but Raymarine said I was a borderline on Weight. Off now to look up dimensions of linear drive. Boat's currently in Greece and I'm in Spain so will be a few weeks before I can try it.

Hi Merv, I had a raymarine wheel pilot on my previous SO29.2 and it was great. But the linear drive on my current SO36i is fantastic. When checking for space make allowances for the linear drive to swing as it moves the quadrant. I had to put a couple of spacer blocks in when mounting mine. And just remembering, there were predrilled holes for mounting the drive. Great boat, Rob

Hi Rob, thanks for the reply, going to take MickyB's advice and make myself a dummy to try for fit and go from there. I did have a look myself while still with the boat and have to agree with everyone, not a lot of room down there.

Hi, I have a 379 from 2013 and I installed a EV200 Raymarine autopilot with the t1 linear drive this season. It took some time as it was very tight around/below the steering wheels. Before I ordered it I checked the distance between the factory drilled holes for the Linear drive (can be found in the owners manual) and the rudder quadrant. The distance to the hole on the right side of the quadrante was ok for installing the drive whereas the middlehole was a too short distance. It works very well but it was a nightmare to install, not to talk about the little tiller arm that also was installed.
