How to get behind the chart table

Ok, in brief

Sun Odyssey 34.2 and the log doesnt work. The wheel spins ok so i'm trying to follow the cable from this transducer back to check its connected ok but it travels up the starboard side, under the saloon seating and up behind the chart table / power distribution board and I loose it, and cant gain access.

Can some one point me in the right direction as to how to remove this lot or where I should be looking?

Ian, I would look behind the instrument which you use to read the log / speed, an end must be there, cables don't often fail in the middle, usually it's their ends which causes problems, ....... dodgy green crimps most common, the middle section should be fine unless mechanically damaged by a drill for example, ........ or are you saying you can't remove the log instrument display? 
If you can get the display off and gain access to the cable end you can then prove it good or bad with a meter.
Sorry I can't point to where all the screws are. What model of log are you using?

That is a very good point. I was starting here because the cable was heading here towards the GPS which is in the same data loop and is mounted here, but it may well all meet up at the instrument cluster instead.

Thanks, maybe I'll follow it back from both ends, that way If i end up back here at least i will know its worth all the effort.

What kind of instruments are they? What is the make and model of the speed transducer? You need to know if they are NMEA instruments, or running on a proprietary data bus like Raymarine Seatalk.

On mine, access to the wires is through the 'drinks' cabinet.  The inside panel on the right is held in with a few screws at the top only.  By unscrewing, the panel comes out in two pieces giving you access to the wiring, albeit tight.

Where the recess is, I haven't yet worked out who to get behind, but a long arm can actually reach from the drinks cabinet through to the panel access, with a friend doing the same from the other side - so wires can be passed this way.

It is not best to remove and drink the contents of the cabinet before performing this task - trust me on this.
