We took delivery of our new NC 795 in July and are generally happy with the boat. The folks at Intermarine in Ft. Lauderdale and Jupiter, FL we’re very good, especially Patricia Wynn! We initially were considering a Cutwater 24 but we’re put off by the quality of the materials used. Most of the railings were already rusting on a brand new boat and the view from the helm was poor. Having said that, it had more options for the same price (radar, autopilot, etc.) but we thought that a better constructed boat was the more important quality. It doesn’t have the quality of say, Scout, but it’s not terrible. Our biggest complaint in that department is the paper veneer on the doors and table.
As far as design, it’s great from an ergonomic standpoint but there are some strange things such as no hot water in the galley or head, no garboard drain plug, and a very underpowered motor due to certificated limitations. Something we’re dealing with right now is how to keep the darn thing cool inside. The A/C is NOT enough to cool on a hot Florida day so we are first going to tint the windows with a clear UV and IR film and add some fans. The boat is lift kept so we had to find an alternate way to cool when out of the water. I’m using a ZeroBreeze2 unit that gives some cooling and, more importantly, dehumidification. Without it I would be concerned about electronics failures. I vent using the packing kit provided and drain to the head sink. We bought a 2000W generator that easily runs the A/C while underway and we keep it on the aft deck while moving and on the port side swim platform while at anchor. It’s a bit loud ( the generator we got has the same decibel rating as the Honda at less than half the price) at anchor but the engine noise drowns it out while cruising.
We’ve had nothing but compliments on the boat looks. It handles well in moderate chop and the bow thruster is a God-send! We have a very tight slip and lots of wind so it’s extremely helpful.
We’re looking forward to lots of use once we get everything squared away and appreciate any input or helpful tips!
