Having had a nice little breeze around our bay, sun shining, returned to the berth and discovered the water in the forward tank had run out.
No great problem, switched to the aft tank and got the hose out to fill the forward one.
As normal this seems to take quite a while, I popped below at one stage to check on the progress via the gauge, 3/4 full it said, so I continued to fill, standing on the jetty I realised that I couldn't see an overflow outlet unlike on my last boat, .. no matter.
Had some interesting chats with fellow sailors as you do whilst waiting, then thought that it really should be full by now and turned the tap off and put the hose away.
Down below I went in search of the overflow route, on the way into the forepeak I casually lifted a sole panel, as my finger went in the lift hole ..... water !, slight panic as our last boat sank with us on it, and water is alarming to me when it isn't where it is supposed to be, then immediately realised it was something to do with filling the tank, I had filled the front bilge with nice fresh tap water upto the floor boards, ..... turns out after quite a bit of pumping and bailing that the screw in lid/ cap for the tank had a large split half way around the 5" threads, and this was an easier overflow for the water than the designed one that goes into the anchor locker.
Our local chandler also sails a SO so popped to tell the tail of woe and see where I might get another cap from, Jeanneau they said, as theirs had also split and they had filled their bilge last year, and they have nice squeaky clean fresh water cleaned bilges just like mine , they could find no other supplier.
So, off to Jeanneau I go, unless anyone has found another cap/ lid that fits, failing all else I suppose I could fit a waterproof hatch, but only if this is going to keep happening with the proper lid .
Going to check the aft tank lid next, the joys of boating.
