Hi The plastic thread on my dip stick sheared and stuck in the fill hole
Managed to clear it but dealer wants £50 plus postage for a new one which I think is a bit steep
Does anyone know the thread used I have a friend who can then turn one for me
thanks Tarn

It might well be M18x1.5, used a bit for lawn mowers and Porsche amongst others. the minor diameter is around 18mm minus the pitch of 1.5 = 16.5mm so measure one of the little wooden bungs in your safety gear ..... or carve an appropriate size of dowel , screw it in a bit and the threads will make marks to measure for the 1.5mm pitch and a calliper can measure the minor diameter, OK so not a very precise meathod , and doesn't account for thread angles but it is likely to be metric and the choice of pitches in metric threads are visibly quite different . if it is M18 x 1.5 you can buy these things from all good lawn mower shops at under £10 , you might have to tune the dipstick length. Or your friend can spin one up in his lathe
Or perhaps someone with the actual item here will post the measurements soon. Good luck CB

Good luck CB Great info CB I happen to have an OEM Yanmar dipstick 177070-62450 that is waiting with me patiently before we can get back to the boat in Spain. This is for the 3jh4e 39hp with a Kanzaki KM35A gearbox, but guess the yellow top is the same thread as the 3YM 20, but maybe differnt dip stick length I measured the threads as well as my eyesight and calipers could manage and totally agree with CB it is 18 x 1.5. The OEM was even more than £50 from my Hamble dealer, I am too embarrassed to even say how much more... so really liked the idea of a Lawnmower alternative, but the Briggs and Stratton type I could find on Amazon/Ebay seem, at least to my eye to have a coarser thread But I did find these aluminium drain plugs on ebay which are 18 x 1.5 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PURPLE-M18-x-1-5-Aluminium-Magnetic-Oil-Drain-Sump-Plug-Nut-Screw-With-Washer/202609621479and at just £5 I have ordered one, if it fits OK I will use it, and just keep the fragile OEM one for measuring the oil level as needed. I expect I will have to drill a very small breather hole though to stop the gearbox becoming pressurised Alternative is the smart anodized ones from caribluemarine.com/ but quite a lot when shipped to UK. I will update when I get my cheapo Ebay plug and report back if it fits, plus the vent issue.

Glad it helped, as a rule I avoid anything 'branded' or 'marine' labled ....... just ordered two 'cup holders' as the SO35 doesn't come with anywhere for an at sea cup of tea to be placed ...... perhaps the French don't do tea at sea, Mrs CB found some bicycle bottle holders, in white! which clip onto 25 mm tube, perfect for the helm binnacle tubes, unfortunately they have no anchor motif , but under a tenner for two , similar boating items seem about £20 each, eagerly awaiting their arrival, and will report on their performance.

Wish I had know about this earlier having recently paid 56 Euros for a replacement original dipstick - daylight robbery - why do they charge so much for something that probably cost pennies - rant over.

Looks good, but decided against as it is still plastic, so concerned about it breaking in situ. With postage it is around £10 but still much better value than the outrageous Yanmar one.

Quick update
My "cheapo" method of modifying the alloy sump plug, did not work.... The tube a I put in to vent the gearbox was too short, so as it must be 'splash' lubrication, all I succeeded in doing was to get oil coming out the breather... Guess it would be OK if you used the same depth of the original dipstick, but anyway I bit the bullet and ordered a the special alloy replacement from caribluemarine.com.
Bob Atkins at Cariblue was very helpful, I ended up buying the Cap only (YM1001-00) as Cariblue does not make an exact complete replacement for the KM35P gearbox, but Bob assures me that their cap only can be refitted with old Yanmar tube without issue.

Hi I’ve same problem sheared thread on dipstick So to dip the oil level I need to know the length of the thread to workout where the oil level should be on the dipstick now it’s threadless. To date I’ve just changed the oil and poured in the amount specified in the technical details Thanks in advance Tarn
