Wondering if anyone knows a Minwax wood stain matches the interior finish on Typical Jeanneau (later 409 SO). I'm making a gauge panel and would like it to match as closely as possible.
Thanks

I went the teak veneer route with great success. It has a pressure sensitive adhesive back and then I just finished it with clear Minwax Helmsman. The color is spot on (02 SO37). The challenge with trying to match stain color is you can't match the grain.

The color of the wood will affect the final color after staining, so my suggestion would be to buy a number of stains close to the color you want. Use a scrap of the same wood to test different mixtures of the stains. I’ve had luck doing this in the past, and it’s nice to have a selection of stains for other projects.

I extended the chart table by 300mm or so in my 439 this past winter and used steamed beech as the timber. I experimented with different coloured varnishes (ended up with a mix of some) on some scrap wood to find as best a finish as possible. I then finished it with 4 coats of epifanes rubbed effect varnish to get the right satin finish.
