When I bought by 2015 409 back in 2019 (210 hours on the engine), the highspeed button worked ok (sort of) but had to bump the switch several times to get it to engage. Now when I bump the switch (right side switch), the switch engages (clicks) but the winch does not more at all. The low speed (left button) switch is fine. I looked at the rubber encased switch (two wires coming out of it) and that seems fine.
Any thoughts on the best approach to solve this? I think I am going to have to pull the ceiling cover panel from under the winch in the aft stateroom to look at it but once I do that am unsure what next...thoughts?

Perhaps locate the solenoid and rig a temporary switch as a way to bypass the deck switch. This might help isolate the problems, switch or something else. The solenoid can also be temporarily bypassed with a proper sized (like a battery cable) short jumper. Then that can help see if it’s the solenoid causing the problem. And then there is also the common issue of bad grounds, loose or corroded cables etc. since connection issues are easiest to fix I would probably start with getting access as you plan and then checking fittings. Be careful. Lots of amps available at these winches.

If you have a multimeter your best bet is to test each component using that. (Assuming there is nothing obvious with visual inspection). Just because the wires on the switch "look ok" doesnt mean the switch is ok. The fact that you can hear the relay in the control box click means it probably is, but you should still check that you arent getting voltage drop through it. Measure from negative to high and low speed control terminals and make sure you have full voltage. Then measure the load side the same way. Given that it was working intermittently it is likely there is a loose connection somewhere. Loose connections will cause overheating and may have burned out the contacts inside the control box.
