Hi everyone,
I fancy installing installing a backstay adjuster on my 409. The boat has two stays from the masthead to each side.
I prefer not to have to install an adjuster each side so am thinking of runnning a single stay from the mast to a block with the same steel wire through the block from each side as per the diagram. I can then install a single adjuster.
Has anyone tried this please?
Also would also appreciate your feedback on your experiences with adjsuters. I am leaning towards a winch handle or pump action adjuster at the moment.
Reagrds, Ian

The solution on the 379 to provide backstay adjustment is to provide a single, continuous backstay running through a wire rope block at the head of the mast and controlled by a single adjuster at either side of the deck fitting. This equalizes the load on each of the double backstays and allows for a smaller adjuster as it is carrying less load than a single point backstay.

I would also consider a block at the masthead. Your proposed variation alters the geometry of the forces acting on the mast which could lead to problems.

thanks for the feedback. Seems a good idea to run to the top of the mast and back down again.
