Hi everyone! We are new owners of a NC 895, and are really enjoying ourselves and very happy with our new boat. However, after a few heavy rainstorms, we have noticed fresh water in the cockpit bilge as well as the bilge in our second berth and the bilge at the foot of the steps outside the head. We are trying to find the source of our leak(s). Has anyone had this issue? Are there places on the NC 895 we should check first?
Thanks so much!

Skipper Tim,
The places I’d start are the places that I’ve recently found minor leaks on my 755:
1. The gunnel mounted rod holders are typically capped. The caps are held on with silicone but these can fall off.
2. The wash down hose fittings and nozzle are both made of plastic. These can crack or simply leak at the thread.
3. The rear sliding door is subject to water ingress when sprayed down with a hose. Make sure you aren’t spraying at the floor seam or allowing water to overflow the track.
4. The freshwater tank is not meant to hold pressure. When filling if you allow it to overflow and the screwed cover isn’t tight it will certainly leak there.
If you decide whether the water is fresh or salt, you will make some good headway....so pucker up!

See the post “NC and Merry Fisher Dry Hulls” for info on this. I had quite a few leaks but finally have a dry hull On my 895.

We initially had water in our bilge. On delivery there was a good amount of pink antifreeze in the bilge. There was also some moisture in the forward cabin ceiling and in the forward port ceiling light. We had our boat uncovered for the first two months we owned her. We monitored the bilge and the ceiling and it all seemed to go away even with the rain.
My suspicion is that most of the water was as a result of pressure washing prior to delivery as well as the winterizing of the bilge, which begs the question, should I dump a few gallons of pink stuff in the bilge this year. The lines should be clear if it hasn't been wet in the bilge at all.
Happy Thanks giving

Skippertim I got some fresh water coming from the chain locker section seeping into the bow thruster compartment of my 795. Since we had no rain, this was apparently from washing the boat. The dealer first tried to stop the problem by applying a sealent at the bottom of the separation wall in between, but it did not work. Finally, they used fiber coating and it seems to solve the problem for the time being. Additionally, all the screws in the chain locker were demounted and rescrewed by using a sealant. Some of them were indeed had been screwed just as it is. Finally, for precaution the water discharge hole in the locker was also completely sealed again. I hope this information may be useful to you in fixing your boat 895.
