Has anyone out there come up with a creative place to conveniently store the vertical removal panel for the companion way? I feel this is a shortfall that there isn't something built in, and was thinking of trying to design something.

On my 39i there is a teak rack in place on the inboard side of the starboard aft quarterberth up against the engine compartment behind the quarterberth door (when the door is open).

Same for 42DS, storage is in the aft cabin on starboard side behind the door and covers the small engine access hatch. IT consists of 2 upright, slightly angled, wooden sections with a slot to hold the panel in place. I'm surprised that there isn't something similar on the 45DS.

My 97 SO 45.1 has 2 rails on the top of the port locker in the cockpit that it slides into just right.

Hmmm... great ideas for storage. My 45DS clearly doesn't have any built in slots for safe storage, unless there was an "option" that was included when new. I'll have to look around the boat this weekend to see if I can build some slots as several of you described. THanks for the ideas.

Our original "holder" consists of 2 pieces of hardwood approx. 38mm x 30mm x 200mm. They are screwed into a bulkhead at an angle to match the washboard. Each piece has a slot cut along the length to take the washboard.
Our washboard stows on its side but could just as easily be upright if the space had been wider and lower.
Check for a flat space in an out of the way spot, sit the washboard on the floor and use some masking tape to mark a spot for each strip of wood. The slots on ours are cut approx. 20mm out from the bulkhead to allow space for the outside of the lock mechanism.
I guess that you will already have worked this out but thought some rough sizes might be of use.

Yes my 39i has a holder in the starboard stateroom too. I am surprised they didn't provide a storage spot on all models.

This is where it goes on my boat.... I meant to post a picture but didn't get around to it. Mine is the same apart from the fact that the washboard lies on one side (i.e. Rotate your washboard clockwise by 90 degrees). Jeanneau just pick the best orientation to fit the space. The panel is only wide enough to take mine upside down in the other orientation and that puts the handle near the floor and widest part on floor. Obviously fine if battens screwed in to make it a permanent feature, no much use. It is also mostly hidden behind a door when fitted on the side. I guess it is just a matter of wandering around trying to find the most convenient and unobtrusive location. Strange that the 45DS doesn't have one fitted already, I can't imagine that there isn't a large enough space somewhere. I've always liked the ones which drop down to store in a slot in the hatch. I expect there might be some disadvantages, drainage, dirt collecting, dropping small items into the slot etc. Not a retro-fit option anyway.

On my SO 30i, the storage is against the vertical face of the wood enclosure for the holding tank in the cockpit locker.
There is a wood guide similar to those shown for other boats, together with an adjustable strap higher up.
Potentially another location to checkout.

I haven’t got around to it yet but I intend putting mine on the bulkhead in front of the aft heads and beside the instrument panel (to port as you go down the companionway).I have the two cabin version so this works, but I don’t know if it will fit if you have the three cabin version with access to the aft heads there...

For my 45 DS (2 cabin version), I've finally settled on the flat stationary panel just beneath the bed in the forward berth. The bed also yields an overhang that helps protect it. My next step is to make a prototype of the wooden channels shown in the picture posted from Zaphod. Seem simple enough to make, and that location (that my wife picked ... btw) is the most out of the way space with ease of access. We couldn't do the idea that Dslittle suggested which was the port bulkhead as you go down the companionway stairs because we have a tall narrow recycle container in that nook.

On our 45DS the companionway panel storage is under the nav table on the wall joining the cocktail cabinet. It slides in quite easily on two rails and is very handy to get out when leaving the boat. The lower rail is wood and it has a cut out to allow the lock to be turned to keep the panel secure when under way.

Have you thought of replacing it with hinged doors?

Has anyone out there come up with a creative place to conveniently store the vertical removal panel for the companion way? I feel this is a shortfall that there isn't something built in, and was thinking of trying to design something. I have made a extra panel 3 mm thick of plexi. Four year of experience It’s easier to quick close the compartment when heavy rain appear or to keep the mosquito outside ore keep the heat inside. The best thing with this panel it’s easy to reach. I place it on the sliding lid and everything fits into the garage. The weight is less then 1/3 of the original one. It’s no problem at all that the sliding lid will get stock or any other problem. I have four adhesive (feet for a chair) to keep it fix on place and that is more than enough. Also a benefit to use clear plexi instead of solid plywood etc. are the visibility, brightness and communication.
