My boat was damaged in hurricane Irma and I decided to have the refit to the damaged vessel done in Annapolis, where I have a project manager whom I trust to do the work. The boat was shipped via cargo ship from the British Virgin Islands to Newport and needed to be motored down the coast to Annapolis. This took quite a bit longer than expected as the engine had problems and I wasn't going anywhere without a mast and without an inboard engine. Once the engine troubles were sorted I did a run down along the inside of Long Island, past New York and Manhattan, down the New Jersey coastline past Atlantic City and then up the Delaware River to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and from there to Annapolis. I had asked for anchorage recommendations on another forum and that thread was not only useful but went on for 184 post (almost all of them on topic!) and I ended up giving a running commentary while I motored southwards. I promised to put together some pictures of the trip and used some free internet software to put together the following travel map: Zanshin's Trip from Newport to Annapolis

So glad for you that you now have her safe in a location where you can soon get her back to her former glory. Thanks for sharing map and photos, overall she looks good considering what she has been subjected too. Did you have to remove all the stanchions and guardwires due to the damage, guess you had to be careful on deck without them...

Most of the stanchions were still attached to the boat, but broken in the middle - so I removed them all. At first it was quite disconcerting going forward without the lifelines but I soon got used to having no backup support. I never fell overboard although I did learn to always have one hand on a hardpoint when going forward or to step up into the centre of the boat as soon as practicable.

Hey Zanshin, strange question but I’m trying to work out if by amazing Co-incidence we’ve actually met before... Reason for asking is that back in April I remember meeting a guy in a bar in Boston who had a Jeanneau damaged by Irma and we got chatting for a while about the differences between sailing in the US vs NZ. It wasn't you by any chance (v long shot I know)?!

Although I did live and work in Boston for a while, it was longer ago than last year and I haven't been back to Boston in many years. Could it have been a gent called Warren with a Jeanneau 51 that you met and talked to?

He was in a busy hotel bar wearing a heavy weather sailing jacket which caught my attention as a fellow busty - hence we got chatting.

John, Glad to hear that you are getting Zanshin fixed up. I met you on the 2016 Jeanneau BVI rendezvous. I am in Rock Hall, MD with my 409, Wind Dragon. Are you at Jabin's for the duration?

Yes, "Zanshin" is getting fixed up at Jabin's and by the end of November she'll be fixed up again and I'll be heading back to the BVI. There's another BVI Rendezvous coming up and I think I'll be there for it.

I have no comprehensive insurance, just liability. The repairs cost more than my first boat (Jeanneau 43DS).
