When we left Elba we had planned to stop in Livorno but we did not get an email response or answer when we called on the phone. We did some research and called a new port Porto di Pisa and got a good price for a week stay. The marina is brand new and very well run. We went in and they met us with a dink and had another guy on the dock to help us get in and tied up.
There are very good showers and toilets about every other dock and very clean. The marina office is very helpful telling us how to get around and what inland trips we could take via public transportation and where we needed to rent a car. They also have access to all sorts of guys who can work on boats. They have an arrangement with rental car companies but we did not use it as I did not want to drive.
From Porto di Pisa we took a bus downtown and shortly we at the Leaning Tower. From Porto di Pisa we traveled to Lucca, Florence, and Siena to see the sights. The only place we wanted to go was Chianti but that took a rental car and a couple of nights in a hotel that we decided to forgo.
We had a problem in Elba when our dink began to leak water and the glue that holds the bottom to the air tubes began to separate. The marina suggested I talk to the chandlery in the middle of town. The guy at the chandlery must have had experience with the issue as he had all I needed to get it fixed. I was surprised as most chandleries would not have anything.
In Porto di Pisa we got a rate based on a week stay that was lower than the daily rate. And to see all that we saw you will need a week.
There is a bar in the marina but it was not very good but 1/2 a block away is town and all you need. There is also a very good grocery store, Conad, that is well stocked.
