Some of you know we are full time liveaboards for the past 12 years. As such we keep SoulMates or try to keep SoulMates in first class condition. We have sailed to over 48 countries and can not even count the number of times we have had our boat looked at for a variety of reasons in a variety of countries. One thing we try to do is search out the best and we do not mind paying more for superior quality work and quality parts.
We did that in Marmaris Turkey when we hired Marlin Marine even through they told us they would be the most expensive but they were certified Yanmar mechanics.
In Israel we used the local Jeanneau guys and when we told them what we wanted done they had no qualms. One issue was the replacement of the forward water tank that we have not been able to use for a number of years but we really did not need it as we have a water maker and a lot of stops along the way. In the DS40 they put the tank in before putting the deck on so it was impossible to get it out and put an exact replacement in. They found a bit smaller tank that fit through the hatch and then cut out the old tank and all the foam I had added to try to stop the leak.
They did a lot of work when we changed out an ancient chartplotter in the salon to a c70 so they had to cut a new board and put everything in. One issue we insisted on a separate gps for our vhf, ssb, chartplotter in salon, and epirp. We have 2 gps antenna - one for the ais that feeds the main chartplotter and autopilot and the 2nd running everything downstairs. They did a great job working out the wiring.
We also had then go up the mast to check our rigging and got an ok on that.
In fact everything they did was way above our expectations and the cost was not exceptional.
We now have a boat that is almost brand new - if you can call a 17 year old, launched 16 years ago new but the guys at Jeanneau in Herzilya Israel did an incredible job. Better than anywhere we have had done anywhere.
