Hello all,
I'm looking for any good or bad comments with reference to a possible purchase of a 2007 /8 54ds. Not a normal choice for me - but this particular vessel is a one private owner highly specified well kept and only very lightly used.( not yet on the open market). I will be crossing oceans, but mostly at anchor in the sunshine. Sadly I can't afford HR53. All comments most welcome, many thanks and keep safe during the current situation. David.

Hi Cascarda, welcome to the forum. You will find many friendly like minded folk here, and no doubt you have already noticed that we are not all sailors, there are many power boat enthusiasts as well. Thanks for posting an introduction, it is always nice to know a little about other forum members.
You will find a library of interesting reading in old posts, most of which remain relevant, so something to do on cold evenings or during lockdown. Remember also that many systems and issues are common across the range of models, so don’t restrict your reading to your particular model.

Beautiful boat, one of our moderators "Zanshin" has considerable experience and knowledge of the Jeanneau 57/58 so please do ask questions - preferably on a new subject thread. Hope you have a great voyage.

Hello, looks like I may have joined this forum a while ago but haven’t really been active. I have decided to introduce myself My name is Christopher from the U.K. I run a successful monititized forum (unrelated to boating) but for security reasons would not like to publicly disclose. So I know a lot about the hard work that is needed to build and maintain a successful forum full of great people! I have always had an interest in boats and it is and always has been my aim to one day buy a boat. Still undecided if I will get a small motorboat to keep in the U.K., such as a Jeanneau leader 33. Or to buy a sailing boat to be able to explore the world. Your opinions on this are welcomed I am still probably at least 5-10 years away from a purchase, have been looking at Jeanneau as they seem to sell quite affordable production boats So, Sailing boat to explore the world or Motorboat for local small breaks? What would you suggest?

Hello Christopher,
Sail vs. Power? This will be quite a long discussion. Please start a new thread so we can accommodate all the comments you will get. Personally, I would try to get some experience with friends or by renting first. It's a big decision.

Hi Everyone, I'm just a few days away from finalizing the purchase of a SO 409 (2012) in New Jersey. As it gets closer, I find myself scouring for manuals, guides, etc. in preparation. My wife and I have a 5 and a 7 year old; we owned a Catalina 320 for 4 seasons and loved it but are now ready for something a bit larger. Due to COVID, we are hoping to take the boat up to the North East of the USA this summer and attempt to live/ work/ homeschool from aboard. Looking forward to participating in the forum. Chris

Hello, I have just purchased a 2012 45DS, I will be coastal cruising her in the Northeast US with My wife and two daughters, 6 and 9.
Right now I am primarily focused on mission critical items like some wine bottle storage in the bilge..........
After looking at several 45Ds's I noticed that they all seem to have poorly drained bilges with standing water in the central 3 sections in the salon. I assume this is fresh water and worry about where it is coming from - I also noticed (while servicing the engine with a Yanmar tech the day we closed) that there is standing water underneath the engine. This is of concern for me. If any 45DS owners have any insight on this I would love to hear. In a possibly related issue I spent most of a day trying, with limited success, to access the stanchion bolts as the stanchions are mostly very loose and clearly would be allowing water intrusion.
Happy to be part of the Jeanneau community. Looking forward to sharing in all of your experiences and hopefully contributing some of my own knowledge.
Thank You
JW

Thank You JW Hi JK You are most welcome, there are quite a few SO45DS owners here, and the boat has a very good reputation. Well worth starting a new thread, maybe two with your specific issues on wet bilge and leaking stanchions and access. There are some tips on posting here: jeanneau.proboards.com/board/9/use-forumBut also well worth doing a search on both issues, they are unlikely to be model specific. Wet bilges can often be the pressure relief valve on the hot water calorifier, these need operating once a season or they tend to drip and if the engine runs hot for any reason will dump hot water into the bilge. The water under the engine may be due to the stern gland leaking. getting access to stanchion bolts can be an issue trying to work out how headliners can be detached, but normally can be done Hope you get things sorted Malcolm

A quick hi from a newbie to both this forum and to Jeanneau. After years of being a passenger/driver on other people’s boats or hiring when on holiday, I’ve just bought my first proper boat, a Leader 705 and bought a new trailer too. I’m looking forward to taking it around Europe as soon as the world starts getting back to normality.

Hello,
Thank you for letting me join this forum. Will soon be moving back to the UK from Dubai and now selling my beloved Archambault Surprise 2007. Looking forward to some cruising and racing. If anyone has some experience with the Sun Odyssey 30i keel version, I would love to know. Is it a good cruiser and a good racer. Never owned a boat with an inboard engine so I'm sure I will have many questions like sail drive vs shaft drive, engine access and servicing etc....

Hi fjcruiserdxb,
Another warm welcome to the forum. You will find many like minded sailors here, and a huge resource in the previous posts which are well worth trawling through on winter evenings as most are timeless.
As Malcom says, I have an SO 30i which I purchased I. 2009, though it it is the lift keel version. But I am with you on the adventures of a first boat with inboard engine and all the other “big boat” systems compared with my previous experience in trailer sailers.
So when you are ready, start a separate thread, it makes the information easier for everyone to find, despite the differences in arrangement, I am sure that there are also similarities in sailing a very similar size craft. I chose the lift keel as I sail on a lake system with large areas of very shallow water, but I am sure that the deep keel version will give you loads of pleasure over the coming years. Especially when lockdowns are lifted so we can all sail again.
We were doing well on the lockdown front until yesterday, but now, after some puzzling outbreaks, we are back on lockdown starting in about 2 hours, but no sailing at this time of night.

All; I’m happy there is a forum for Junneau owners. I just bought a slightly used 1095 in Vancouver, BC, Canada and will be sailing it around the Southern Gulf Islands in British Columbia. I’d be happy to hear about other Junneau owner’s experiences with the 1095 or other models.
