All, Very pleased to join this Forum.
Currently owner of a Sun 2500, sailing in south of France, and waiting for a brand new SO440 to be delivered in July 2019.
Will be happy to share any feedback from those who already have sailed this boat.
A grammar question : In english people talk about their boats saying "her" , in French we use "his" any explanation ?
Happy new year everyone !

You are most welcome. The Sun 2500 is a practical and versatile boat, but I am sure you will love the 440, I have sailed one briefly, most impressed. Didn't know about the masculine form being used for boats in France. Being English I can only think of sailing boats as female as they need so much love, care and attention.

Hi Fabrice-Erta
Welcome to the forum, it’s great to have you on board.
My word! You will notice a difference with the new boat. What an adventure it will be. We all look forward to hearing about your experiences. You will find. Lots of support and helpful people here.
In all of my life, and all my reading, in English, tradition is that boats are always Considered feminine, and referred to as “she”. I realise that this does not apply in all languages. As far as I know, it has always been that way.

I see Malcolm has answered with similar thoughts while I have been typing.

Hello!
I'm a new member from St Thomas, USVI. I currently own and live on a 2002 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2 with my wife and two dogs. I am a Captain by trade, mostly on powerboats, although I was a crewman on a 65' Steel Gaff Rig Schooner in the Keys for a while.
I joined the forum because my boat is a former charter boat, and is something of a project. I'm hoping this forum is going to be a valuable resource for me.
I'll try to get some photos up later. I'm new to sailing forums, but I am also a long time motorcyclist, and I have found motorcycle forums to be an invaluable source of info, and I hope I run into the same thing here.

Hi ChrisH and Galateia
You are both very welcome. Just to confirm this is still the same forum as it has been for almost 14 years 😀
I look forward to your input

Hello, I have just joined the owners forum having bought a 2005 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 54 DS in Italy in July. The vessel has been re named and re registered as a UK yacht and sailed from the Italian Adriatic to Croatia. It is now completing its refurb in Barcelona during the winter. Alexandria will leave Barcelona in April and continue back to the UK by September where final hull wrapping and replacement of standing rigging will occur.
I have spent a lot of time finding things out for myself, slowly! Aircon, 24v systems, generators and bow thrusters have all been an experience. So, I would value a 54DS resource if there is one, please.
Thanks and best

Hi Alexandria,
Welcome to the forum. It’s a great place to hang out with others who have a similar interest.
Congratulations on the purchase. You have great adventures ahead of you. It sounds like you will get to know it quite well by the time you get it home.
There is a real treasure trove of useful information in the posts contained in the forum, well worth taking some time trawling through old posts. Much more interesting that the tv most times! Remember that most systems are common to more than one model so look at the thread topics rather than any specific model.
And please tell tell us how you go with your recommissioning.

Found the forum through intensive googling for information about a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 34.2. Not owning any sailboat but actively looking after one to get my hands on, eventually. right now I enjoy learning as much as I can about sailboats. Only took up sailing actively last year, in a dinghy. Which I was recommended starting in, to learn how to sail before venturing out in the larger boats.

Hello All We have just become the proud owners of a 2014 Merry Fisher 755 - I know it doesn't have sails but I am sure you will forgive us We had a Warrior 175 for the previous couple of years and have decided that living in Cornwall, UK and being surrounded by the sea it would be rude not to spend even more time out on the water. We have also spent an inordinate amount of time on motorcycles - and as Galateia remarked bikers forums are invaluable sources of information so we hope we can benefit from the collective knowledge. You never know we might even be able to contribute! My understanding about boats being referred to in the feminine in English is because boats carry people in them and are tasked with looking after her cargo - much like a pregnant woman carries and looks after her unborn child. ATB You are most welcome to our forum and congratulations on the new boat. We seem to find that there are many ideas and tips that cross over between power and sail, and whilst we have a dedicated powerboat board, you may often find that it is a sailboat owner who responds with suggestions. When you get a chance please upload some photos of your boat to our gallery www.jeanneau-owners.com/photogallery.htmlIt is pretty straightforward if you follow the instructions there. Always happy to learn what you liked or disliked about the purchase process and if you have any issues do post to the forum, whilst you have successfully made your first post already the guidance at: jeanneau.proboards.com/thread/2483/make-first-post should assist when you make posts on the subject specific boards.

Frabrice, Just to complicate the question a little - I am English and my last boat was named "CASTOR", the name derived from the stars, the Roman gods, POLLOX and CASTOR that make up the constellation of Gemini or "GEMEAUX" in French. My wife always imagined it to be the little furry creature that swims in the rivers and builds dams better known in English as a beaver. Both of us referred to the boat as he and not she, contra to english tradition. Our new boat is named "C O C O" and she is definitely a girl, named after Madame Chanel, and that song "Qui qu'a vu Coco" By the way congratulations on the new delivery in July. Will it be commissioned in Chantier Naval Frejus or Antibes? We are currently in Port Frejus while sorting out snags on our new boat which was commissioned here. We leave for our base in Spain within a month or two.

C O C O is currently on the accueil pontoon facing the chantier naval and very close to the Capitainerie.
We pass the Jeanneau dealership at Les Issambres every time we return from Port Frejus, taking the scenic route past l'Esterel towards Cannes.

Hello all,
We bought a 2001 Sun Odyssey 37 last year and will be sailing her along the Swedish coast and Denmark. We looked at several models in the 37-foot range of the same generation and Jeanneau came out top in terms of sailing performance, perceived quality, and interior comfort.
We have bought new sails for this season and will make many small upgrades. I plan to post pictures of the upgrades if I think they could be of general interest. I've already learned a lot from this forum which is a great resource.

Hello to all.
I'm from Perth Western Australia. Bought a 2005 Sun Odyssey 37 in September last year and have been enjoying a great summer of sailing. We have consistent afternoon sea breezes that are usually around the 18 - 22 knot mark.
Found this site after a bit of Googling in relation to a suspected leaking rudder seal (I suspect I have one as I'm getting a little bit of water in the central cavity after use and I've traced the water flow to somewhere in the rear).
Regards,
Tony
