One of the issues for non Schengen boats is where to spend the winter. We have wintered over in Tunisia, 2 winters, and Turkey, 3 winters. Most folks do not seem to realize that there are other options to get out of Schengen and have a warm winter, especially if you want to stay warm and as full time live aboards that is important to us.
We sailed from Cyprus to Herzliya Israel in 30 hours and it was over all a good sail. One of the great things of this forum is the help other Jeanneau owners give each other. When we decided to winter over in Israel Alex1949 offered his help with anything we needed and has been a wealth of information. we will post more in the destination section but for now we are in Herzliya marina for the winter and our first impression is people here have sailboats that they actually use and go sailing.
For non Schengen boats ALL options should be explored and most of what we have seen on a number of forums is Turkey. There is nothing wrong with Turkey but after 3 years there we wanted more so Israel became an option and we will explore it to the hilt.
More later as we learn and experience a new country where we can sail almost of not all year round.

Sounds an excellent solution for you. Post Brexit guess many red ensign boats will have to do similar.
Sure you will keep us updated on what is good and bad.
Cheers Malcolm

Menlim , I visited your country ( be it short ) at the time the Sinai desert was still occupied , or let's say inhabited , by Israelis . It brings back good memories indeed. Wouldn't want to return to Sharm el sheikh these days though . Just hope Chuck will fill us in on his future experiences yet to come . As for your call for more tourists , I'm sure the Balearic's (among others) would be more than happy to lend you some young British ones. Good luck . PS: hope you can take a joke gentlemen Regards

We are just settling in. Find things we need and how to get around. Our first surprise was we can go almost anywhere in Israel in a day. We so far have done a day trip to Tel Aviv and Jaffa. it is very east to get around.
There is an incredible Jeanneau dealer here and I got a rebuilt c80 and they helped install it. Had to do a bit of cutting ect and then took our c70 and move it to the salon and move everything there around. Great job and very impressed.
And we did a day sail and plan to do more as the weather is wonderful. Still in shorts and tee shirt and no socks.
The people here could not be more helpful from in the grocery store as today I wanted regular Pledge and could not read it and a young lady was there shopping and I asked her and she went over it with me and then saw me later as I could not find something and she asked what I was looking for and told me where it was. That is just normal here. And none of this would have gone as easy as it has with Alex who is a member here and sails a boat exactly like SoulMates - a DS40.

Our boat is at Melilla ( Spanish enclave in Morocco) right now overwintering . We left the beautiful Marina di Ragusa after 4 years and heading for the Canaries next year. That was in fact scheduled for this year , but a turn of events messed up our initial plan. I'm sure if your post here would have been on the board a year ago we might of decided to go east instead of west . I remember in Israel they all speak English and as you say are very friendly . And what's more they still have access to the golf of Akaba ( Eilat) , guaranteed wonderful diving .
Chuck , could you also keep us updated on prices of every day stuff , marinas etc. Would be interesting to know the today living standard of the country. You as Americans should feel right at home over there no ?!
Regards

May see you in the Canaries next year - that is the plan at least but as we say - we plan God decides - You mean ' man proposes , God disposes ' We're not really religious , so we tend to live/sail by the philosophy that sailing/cruising plans are made to change . And in most cases they do . But maybe there is something or someone on the buttons after all . Hitting 65 it wont take me that very long anymore before finding it out I guess. In the meantime make sure to duck when you see an object flying over Chuck , Israel's neighbors are not renowned for their kindness. Regards

It is still summer in Israel. Still in shorts and tee shirts - occasional jacket in the evenings and mornings. Yesterday was a day trip to Nazareth with alex1949 - and today radar mount got repaired with an innovative and simple repair. pic and data later on the radar
