Looking for suggestions on how to make our new to us 2012 42 ds cockpit more comfortable. There is no where to sit and lean back with back support. Pillows help but it’s still not that great. The upper level seats close to the companionway are particularly uncomfortable. Thanks for any ideas.

I have one of these and cannot recommend them highly enough a bit pricy but very versatile. You can sit at the aft end of the cockpit seat with full back support facing for'd or even have it at the side propped against the side rails. In the states I think West Marine have their own version and probably cheaper it definitely makes the cockpit more comfortable and just straighten it out to lay on and stow.

Hello, I agree with earlier suggestions. The admiral found these at a boat show and we have two of them. I often use one at the helm as it supports the back. They can store flat so very convenient. Here is one in a favourite spot on the cockpit. Regards, Trevor

Here's our arrangement with closed cell custom bottoms and pillow backs. It adds some flexibility + we ordered 2 Sport-A-Seats

West Marine carries a line which is similar to what Spritz recommends. It's about the same price but fairly regularly goes on sale - check their fliers on line. We have a couple and find them a major upgrade to cockpit comfort.

You will have to check dimensions for the cosmetic appearance (we have a 45DS) but we had stainless steel back rests made up. Not only do they 'raise' the backs for comfort, they also make the cockpit a much safer place underway. I will take a photo and try to upload later.

I added some blue seats with adjustable backs from west marine. They seem very comfortable in the cockpit.

That sounds nice, can you post or send me a picture? Best regards Kapt. Kork e-mong@online.no
