Hi I am just having my 36i commissioned Burnham (England). I have the twin cabin version and I am fitting a Honda whisper generator in there to charge the batteries. Geoff. ;D Hi Geoff Where are you putting the Honda? , how will you deal with exhaust and air intake etc? Cheers Malcolm

Malcolm I am putting it in the space behind the shower. I will open the window in the cockpit. I am exhausting it out of the hull with an Eserbacher exhaust. I have had the generator modified to take 30mm SS flexable exhaust pipe. It will be done by next weekend. Come and have a look....no doubt we will both be at Burnham at the same time. BRGDS. Geoff.

Hi Geoff
Sounds very clever, I had not heard of the exhaust being extended on a Honda before,
see you next weekend - hopefully we will be back out of the shed by then

Hi Here is a picture of the generator in the space behind the shower. I will take more when the install is complete. I have since tied it down using 4 half eyes and some rope. It does not need to be tied down too hard. I will be using 3 metres of 30mm SS flexi tube athat will have a BIG loop put in it and then connected to an Eserbacher exhaust outlet. Good Luck. Geoff.

Ok Guys.....So a very trusted friend took a drill to my brand new boat. We installed an eserbacher 30mm exhaust and put a big loop into 3 metres of 30mm ss flexible hose. The 1KW Honda whisper generator is held down by 4 half eyey. It is then tied down with 8mm rope. A cable was run from the gernmerator to the back locker, where the shore power is and another shore power plug put on the cable. We ran it for half an hour and it is VERY quite. See picture of installation..any ore information then please ask. Good luck. Geoff.

Was thinking of adding the Honda generator on our boat although simply leaving it on the swim platform when we need a charge. What size generator did you get or that was recommended. thanks

Gary I bought a 1KW Honda whisper generator. I think this will be good enough. We do hot have a microwave and it is purely for battery top up purposes. I did not want to keep geting it out and lifting all the time. Geoff.

Hi all
Well the boat has been on the pontoons now for nearly a month. We have no power on them.
The first bit of good news is that the system I used to secure it is proving to be adequate as I have yet to see the generator bobbing along through a hole in the hull.
The generator is proving to be very good and if I run it for an hour then the batteries are brought straight back up again.
There is no obvious noise from the generator and I leave the hatch open into the aft area to help with ventilation.
The exhaust being 2 metres long does not get hot where it touches the hull, I have, however wrapped that section in heat proof tape.
The unit uses very little petrol. I am still on the first tank of the year.
Hope this helps anyone thinking of fitting something similar.
Geoff. ;D

Hello Geoff, It sounds like the generator is doing a really great job. One thing I have been wondering is how do you start the genny? Is it electric start and if not, how do you get to the starter cord? Regards and thanks, Trevor

Trevor
I wish it was electric start.
I go into the "generator" room and just pull the cord. It starts first time with very little effort. The petrol cap has a breather valve which has to be opened so electrical start would be an issue.
Very pleased with the whole thing though.

Hi Geoff,
That sounds like the answer to my problem (lifting the thing in and out and also keeping the weather off it). What did you do to the Honda exhaust to fit the tube? I don't think mine sticks out enough to get a clip on. Any chance of a close up pic of your modification?
Thanks for the idea.

Bill
I had a local mechanic weld a bit of pipe on the exhaust and then I put some SS flexable pipe on the end.
I then put a SS heating exhaust outlet on the hull and that is what vents the exhaust.
Good Luck.
Geoff.
