Hi As a Sun Shine owner I was suprised when I noticed it was made out of plywood. Is this the original setup? Is there a special reason for it? In the winter time there where cracks in the wood. Now the rudder has been laminated with epoxy and E-glass fiber from West systems after been dryid out for 6 months. Br Jonas / skipper of Opusett

TO Br Jonas, skipper Opuset; I am currently repairing a Plywood rudder from my 27' Fantasia. This is my second Fantasia and I have had to repair rot in both! Was your rudder repair done "professionally " and do you have any details of the work done i.e. number of coats of west epoxy/ #layers of glass cloth etc. Final finish products. Any answers would be helpful, Thx Richard, skipper Essex.

Apologies, I have deleted the Swedish as all posts on this forum have to be written in English as it is a condition of the service - the server is based in the USA, so I think it it so everything is fully transparent

To Richard: I did my self. But did ask the West systems dealer in Sweden for advice. He told me to use 2 -layer of the 167g/m2 glas cloth. This to make the rudder still little flexible. For the finnish some epoxy filler and 4 coats of Hempel High Protect for protection against water absorbtion. // J

to Br Jonas skipper Opuset; Thx. for your reply. I am 50% done. The lower half is epoxied and 1 layer cloth, total maybe 8 coats of west epoxy. I had to cut out the rot in the center and used epoxy with filler to repair. This w/end I intend to tackle the above water half. I will probably repeat as per the submerged half. regards ,Essex
