Hi MalcolmP
Thanks to Clarke & Carter I tested the new SO440 yesterday in the Solent.... WOW what a yacht. Having owned a SO379 for a few years I thought it would be a major challenge for Jeanneau to top it for sailing enjoyment etc. but IMO they have taken a major all round step forward with the new SO440.
The SO440 was just a pleasure to sail touching +9kts at times with little effort or fuss (with a std fixed prop) amazing .. it was steady, solid .. light on the helm and very manoeuvrable we just did not want bring her back to its berth.
The new innovative layout both Interior and Exterior worked well for us with many many positives ... yes few negatives but appreciate this was an early production model, sure their will be some small aesthetic changes in the 2018 roll out period . Look forward to seeing other independent test reports, any Polar diagrams about ? appreciate any available information / feedback on this new model.
However decision more or less made for me ... once I sort out spec and availability I will be placing an order with Clarke & Carter .... hoping I can get one for mid next season.

US SAIL Magazine has awarded the new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 as the 2018 winner of the: "BEST MONOHULL CRUISING BOAT 40 to 50 Feet" category. The December 2017 edition has full details of the competition. Brilliant result for this game changing design. Click images below for more information.

@jef Hi Jef,
Did you remember the negatives and can they be solved with some well-choosen options? We are planning to order a SO440 for mostly coastal sailing on the North Sea (Belgium Coast, South Coast UK).

It looks like a Bavaria to me. Nice cockpit. Maybe it is the pics, and I just dislike the plumb bow and stern on any modern yachts. Are they keeping the deck drier, making the hull faster, or is it just a fashion.......
But I would not turn down a proper sail in one !!
