I am planning to buy a new Plastimo life raft (52381) for my SO 40,3. My plan is to mount the canister on the starboard aft pulpit. Has anybody done this? Is the pulpit strong enough to support the weight of 38 kilo? Is there space enough, the canister is 80 cm long?

I have used the ISAF Special Offshore Regulations to help me out on safety and other issues for a long time. Although primarily aimed at racing, it is a very useful tool. I do not believe a pulpit/pushpit mounted cannister liferaft would be permitted by the ISAF. According to their rules it must be either stored in a purpose built compartment or "packed in a transportable rigid container or canister and stowed on the working deck or in the cockpit...".

I have a Zodiac liferaft mounted in this way on my SO40.3. After 18 months, I have had one of the bolts fixing the pulpit to the deck broken, but the Jeanneau dealer says it was a defect in the bolt souldering unrelated to having the raft weight on the pulpit (and of course fixed it within warranty). For the moment it looks all right, but it may be too soon to tell (the bolt was replaced just a month ago).
