Has anyone installed a sonar transducer on the transom? Is there anything to watch out for? I have totalscan unit that I’m going to attach and I’m not sure how thick the fiberglass is at the bottom. What about routing the cable in? Cheers Hi Beautfortnc795, I have the Lowrance Sonar and Totalscan installed on my 795. The dealer installed mine and routed the cables, but I installed trim tabs and had to reroute some of my other cables. The starboard side is pretty straight forward as you can route the cable right up the starboard side of the boat along side the hydraulic lines. The port side is a little more tricky. An easy route is to run the cable right over the fuel tank, but I would resist that path. I had a lot of cables routed over the fuel tank including my kicker battery cables which I have since re-routed. I ran mine up the port side of the boat and came out in the stowage hatch where the batteries are, then over to the starboard side and up to the helm. It took a bit to get my cable feeder threaded through port side openings under the deck, but I eventually got it. I used my phone to take pictures inside the hull through access ports to figure out where I could route the cables. You can see the locations of my sonar on the right and Totalscan on the left and where the cables were routed. Feel free to send me a personal message if you would like more details and photos. Cheers, Ron

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the pics. I only have the one TotalScan xducer so I'll probably go with the starboard side. I'm guessing the bottom of the transducer is just slightly below the hull bottom? I don't see your trim tabs. Are they further out? Thanks for the PM invite but posting here might help someone else out too.
Any idea how thick the transom is?
Cheers, Marc

Marc, you are correct, the bottom of the transducer is slightly below the hull. I don’t actually know the thickness of the transom, and I don’t remember the length of screws I used for the tabs, but I would guess a least 1”. Here is a wider photo so you can see where I placed the trim tabs.

Hi Ron, I got it installed just fine. I put it on the starboard side and it works great. The pictures really helped. Thanks so much.
Next up, finishing the autopilot install. I still haven't figured out how to remove the dome light in the cockpit since that's an easy access point for the remote compass. As soon as I figure that out, I'll post something.

All,
I’m looking for recommendations on a kicker for a MF 755/795. I know some of you have put the Yamaha 9.9 on, which would have plenty of power. My idea is to put a Yamaha 6Hp on as I can store it underneath above the fuel tank. The advantage of the 6Hp is that it’s half the weight (50lbs), far easier to store, and easier to lift. Although I’d prefer the 6Hp, I’m concerned that it may not push the boat adequately.
Any opinions?
Thanks
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, I‘d say it depends on the conditions you will be using it. In calm waters with little to no current the 6hp would probably be sufficient, but in winds and/or stronger currents I know I have to kick up my 9.9 high thrust to keep on course. The other thing to consider is I had to get the long shaft and a 5 inch extension for my kicker to get the prop far enough in the water given how high the mounting bracket is above the water line. You might not have room to stow a long shaft kicker.
Cheers, Ron

Hi Everyone, How does one remove the round LED dome lights? (3 interior and 1 exterior) I don’t want to break anything today...Thanks! With the nail or a flat screwdriver lightly force the ring remove screws Thanks. I got it off without breaking anything. Unfortunately, on my boat the cockpit dome light that I want to use for access has been caulked in. It’s always something...

Hi Dave,
I'm also interested in the Zipwake system. May I ask whereabouts you put them and what size model did you get? (A picture would be awesome.)
Thanks, Marc

Dear All. Thanks for accepting me to this forum. I'm waiting for my 795 with a yamaha 200Hp to be delivered next saturday. As this is going to be used for fishing too i would like to add steering wheel and controls at the back like they install on the Marlin models. An aux outboard is on the future buying list too so when on the fishing spot I use only the auxiliary motor. Most of the fishing i practice is trolling with live bait and slow jigging. Anyone installed something similar or have any experience on the matter.
Thanks in advance Edmond ( Malta )

Hi Edmond, Welcome to the forum. You will find many friendly and helpful people here. And we look forward to hearing of your adventures too.
You will find many pleasurable and interesting hours of evening reading in the previous posts. Don’t overlook the sailing ones as many topics are generic to different models, and many systems such as water pumps and batteries are common to both power and sail boats.
I am sure you will enjoy fishing on your new boat.

I had thought about adding a steering station, and if I only had the main for trolling then having the steering station would be really nice. The F200 does have a trolling mode where you can adjust speed at 50 rpm increments and it works pretty good. Instead I added a Yamha 9.9 high thrust auxiliary along with a Garmin TR1 Gold autopilot and it works great. I can either the tethered remote which is about 10 feet long, or I can use the wireless remote from any location on the boat. The nice thing about this setup is with the autopilot its like having another set of hands onboard to componsate for things like when you drop the downrigger ball on one side it will add drag and the boat will start to turn. The autopilot adjust for that so I’m hands free when adjusting my gear. It’s also great in currents and winds to keep the boat on coarse when I’m tending the gear. It is a bit expensive, but less than a steering station. I can also post photos if you are interested in my setup. Cheeers, Ron

Hi Capt Ron . Thanks for your fast reply. I prefer a steering station because you might need to turn on your own axis immediately especially when your fishing with slow jigging , with joysticks you make larger turns i think . if the budget permits i would like to go for an auxiliary complete with double throttle and steering station so you can make less hours on the main engine and less fuel consumption. Correct me if i am wrong . please have look at this link so i can explain my self better. The explanation is @ 2.30min There is another small issue about the alignment of the auxiliary with the main outboard. Your setup is interesting please forward pics . Thanks and regards Edmond

You will find a lot of other owners that have great info and things they have added that make the boat even better, so be sure to spend time searching and reading through some of the members post. I added pop-out cleats to mine and it really makes tying up at the dock so much nicer. I had mine installed by the dealer, but I’ve had to tighten them a couple times and found access is pretty tough, but doable. Here is where I installed mine. What’s really nice is I can access them through the sliding window on each side.

Hi Capt'n Ron, in your boat hull under the window, is it a pilot/led lamp? How could he pass the power wires on the port side? and how was it attached/fixed to the hull? Thanks, best regards

Hi Nanus, I believe what you are referring to is actually the metal mid ship cleat just under the window.

Thanks Captain Ron...Super helpful! I did add a lot from the dealer but didn't know there wasn't a mid-cleat. FYI to anyone interested on options....Below are items I had the dealer add and way worth it: - Horn
- Bow thruster (my last boat was a 35 Chris Craft flybridge that did not have one) so I felt like I was cheating, but now, I will never drive another boat without one...Driving sideways into a dock is awesome!
- Two interior oscillating fans in the saloon
- Remove the stove and fill in for extra counter space (we only do day trips and don't cook)
- Under water LED blue lights (Very cool at night)
- Bimini top (my wife made me get it, but its starting to grow on me)
- Windlass
My next three projects:
- Install midship cleat
- Change all 4 white LEDs ceiling lights to white and blue
- Add a float on the bilge pump

Thanks for all the good info on this forum. Launched our new MF795 Dec 2018. Wife & I mainly use it for short term cruising rather than day trips. Just returned from 3 weeks cruising Fraser Island's western shores & creeks. Boat stored at home & towed with Toyota Launcruiser 200 diesel. Lots of extras & personal mods to improve comfort, ventilation, storage & ease of use. Great little boat for 2 people to live-aboard short term. Uncomfortable ride into short choppy seas & wonder if anyone has improved the ride by fitting trim tabs.

Hi Greg, welcome from another ex trailerable sailor. All a bit smaller than yours, but the last one, that I sailed for 20 years was built in Brisbane. I ordered a hull and deck and towed it south to fit out. You live in a great area for boating.
Lots of good information and friendly people here. Do take time to read some of the previous posts. We all share many issues and experiences whether power or sail.

Hi Greg, you seem to be having a bit of trouble making a post. I am guessing that you are using the “Quote” button on the main board. May I suggest that you first touch the topic of the post to which you are replying, in a separate colour at the top if the post. This colour indicates a link which will take you to the specific thread. At the bottom of the thread, there is a “Reply” button which will take you to the edit screen where you can easily make your post. When you have finished typing, use the “Create Post” button at the bottom of the edit screen.
Finally, when your post appears, scroll to the top of the page and use the “Boards” link on the top banner (not the return arrow) to navigate back to the main board to see other topics.
I will leave it to others to explain how to quote another post. I hope this helps.

Hi Rene460 Thanks for helping. Failed step 1 but now trying REPLY button. Second attempt. First typing effort disappeared during process. Anyway our newish MF795 is working really well as both boat & boat-a-van. Features Victron Smart Charger/Shore Power, Victron Solar Regulator, 3 x 105aH batteries, 2 x 100W Solar panels, 2 x Fridges, Bimini with drop-down sides & rear, port & starboard weather awnings to cabin, foredeck sunshade for windscreen & most factory options. New Mercury ProXS 225HP V8 outboard works well. Will fit trim tabs soon as we usually travel in Heavy-Ship mode.
