I'm going for a week sailing in Greece and I'm wondering - Do I need to bring cash with me or the cash machines work normally in Greece ?

It's business as usual unless you have a Greek bank account.

We did not have an issue anywhere last year. In fact we had heard that when there was a problem foreigners could get money as it was from out of the country and added to the currency -- have a good time there - we did

Vasko, If you want to play it safe, take some local currency to the Islands but make sure you bring both larger and smaller denomination currency

good idea I think I should be able to hunt some local currencies in different denomintions over the hills or fish some in the sea also

A few days ago I heard rumors in my winter marina MdR ( which we now left 5 days ago ) that supermarkets' shelves were running empty and no cash was available in the money machines. Which was very disturbing to hear for us as we are heading Corfu to arrive mid next month . I recently was informed that the shortage was due to ferry strikes and have been resolved as we speak.
Regards
