Quite a disturbing thing going round the WWW about a german sailor found dead and mummified in his yacht, a Jeanneau Sun Magic 44. Here is an english article about it (there are many articles on it). The only good video, confirming it was a Jeanneau Sun Magic I could so far only find on a german site: here. His last official siting was actually in 2009 on Mallorca.......

I saw some photos with the "Sun Magic 44" clearly visible. I checked the boat name on the boat list here and it's not listed.
Whilst the last "official" sighting was way back in 2009, I saw reports that he was in contact with a friend or relative a year ago and now the medical examiner has stated that he dies of a heart attack only a week before being found. Sad story regardless.

I don't think you can be mummified in a week. Yet another sensationalist approach by the media. How about just the plain facts please!
As far as the German Sailor, well I consider him lucky. He probably died doing what he loved. RIP.

He probably died doing what he loved. RIP. torresmd : My thoughts exactly. But, I also found a more sensible interview with some specialist, who explained this state of the body is not mummified, but the grey appearance of the body is in fact mold. This is caused by a combination of high temperatures, high relative humidity and the high salt content in the air as wel as on the skin. And to get to this sort of state could be in a matter of 3 to 4 weeks. The outer skin would more or less stop decomposing and go hard (and moldy), but the inner body would certainly be decomposing. So it sounds like the word "mummified" is mainly chosen for a good caption by the media.

That sounds about right. Thanks for that explanation.

That sounds about right. Thanks for that explanation. Hey! I am no expert of dead people, let alone mummy´s. Just repeating what I read elsewhere!
