The cutlass bearing on my Merry Fisher 655 is worn out after 180 hours total, a bit prematurely in my opinion.
This Winter I want to change (or have it changed) and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this and any reccomendations on the best yard in the Solent area to have it done.
A forum search shows that this can be a few hours or in the case of the composite type (which resist pullers by breaking up) a full day at least.
Before I give a blank cheque book to my yard what should I expect or prepare for?

As a supplier of composite bearings we normally recommend they are fitted as a clearance fit so you can insert them by hand, (much quicker and easier) removal you either heat the carrier if it is metal (this softens the epoxy bedding) or a sharp chisel will separate it from the carrier quite easily. You can also use a release agent on the bearing before bedding on epoxy.
I think you are talking about rubber bearings in a composite sleeve which are pressed in not a composite bearing.
Excessive wear is going to be down to alignment, abrasives in the water or crustacean growth on the shaft or in the bearing waterways.
