@on y va As you can read above, I asked to Darglow, the first time they say to me go to the 18x14, the second time 20x13, so now I'm little be confused, and only for this reason that I ask for people that have this propeller..thanks Antonio I contacted Darglow, as I also have a professional relationship with them and they wrote me the following: "we have looked through all our correspondence with this gentleman and not once have we suggested an 18x14. We suggested a 20x13 and only this. He has asked us on the suitability of multiple different sizes (including 18x14, 19x11 etc) as he keeps finding second hand propellers. I am not sure if he has also had correspondence with factory in Denmark?" In my view, and taking the size of your boat in consideration in combination with the engine and gearbox, I would go for 20x13 too. I would certainly not go for 18 inch, whatever the pitch. Hope this helps Antonio.

I know eliche radice, thanks, but I ve read much more better about flexofold.
Another point for the FoF is that this propeller was mounted by jeanneau in origin on the performance models of my same model of boat. Eliche Radice are knows very good for the 2 blade folder propeller, I need 3 blades.. Thank's again. Antonio

I read only now the reply of Darglow. Later I will write the post where they write me " ok for the 18x14" with the date and the time of the email. I'm now with my smartphone and it is difficult for me to do that now. Ciao. Antonio.

Sounds like the phone is smarter than you Antonio! But I think the conclusion to the story is: don´t go for 18 inch.

toniocask: Well, if you say so, who am I to say it is not true. But, go with their reaction to me of yesterday: 20 inch, not 18. 18 inch is just not a lot for a 42 footer and the chances of cavitation are very high with that size prop and engine.

This is a post that I read now from a member of this forum. I sent also a private message to him a few of minutes ago for better understand his feeling. It seems that the 18x14 fof on his 42ds with the same engine of mine works perfectly. :-)
May be I have find the solution. Thank to this wonderfull forum...

Just replied by PM...text for other is as follows:
Hi Antonio! Thanks for the message. We purchased our Flexofold prop directly from Flexofold. I corresponded with: Keld Willberg Flexofold ApS Bramdrupvej 50 DK-6040 Egtved Email: KW@Flexofold.com Tel. +45 75 55 43 46 Fax +45 75 55 43 66 They should be able to offer you the right size for the engine, gear ratio and shaft size. Your specifications look to be the same as ours. We purchased (1) 18x14-3R Bladeset three-blade prop and (1) ISO 30 – 3 Blade hub. We had installed during a haul out by our local yard with no problems.
The prop has performed flawlessly under sail & motor. It does take a little more throttle in reverse, but it has never been a problem. I see no affect in heavy seas or heavy headwind vs. the fixed blade while motoring. One thing is to keep it clean while in the water. We have a dive service scrub the hull, prop and all fitting once a month here in California since we don’t get hauled out except for even 2-3 years as we have 12 month sailing.
I hope this helps! Best regards, Brent Tafika@gmail.com

Antonio, I think things are a little clearer to me too in regards to Darglow. Darglow have not advised you on a 18"x14 prop, but they told you that if you were to fit a 18"x14 then it would be satisfactory. The advise from Darglow for your boat was and remains a 20" x 13 prop. (Flexofold). And the other 42DS owner confirm this, that a 18" x 14 is working well, even perfectly. And ofcourse all is perfect on his boat, as he doesn´t know any better! If he was to fit a 20" x 13 prop, then it would be perfect! Everything on my boat is perfect too! hahahahaha! Ok, I think I leave it at that.

Thanks to Tafika, very nice to read what you wrote you are very kindly. For On y va, I would not be controversial, but you have not read the email he wrote to me, despite earlier you said that you have not reason to not belive me. have you change your idea now, maybe because another sailor said that rhea 18x14 works perfectly? Are you the owner of his sailboat, was you on board? If you want I can send to you the email where they say that 18x14 is OK. The 20x13, better in heavy seas, the 18x14 better in calm conditions. We have to get to this level?? Like children's? I hope to close here this affair. Thank's

I think you missed the humor of it all. Anyway, it is not my boat, nor do i really care what you do. Good luck with it all.
