It is spinaker decision time.
Most of my sailing will be shorthanded, i.e. only 2 of us. Our DS is currenlty all furled with electic winches and would hate to have anything manual like a doused spinnaker. But that just may have to be.
Has anyone installed the RollGen furling system with an asymetrical spinnaker of the G2 or A2 size? I am wondering how well it works and if there are many if any problems.
I also would like to know if anyone has installed a retractable bow sprit to fly the spinnaker from?? If so what make and model?
It is decision time so any information would be helpful.
Thanks in advance...

hi We had a Rollgen on a SO35 and I can tell you this was very heavy to handle and didn't worked very well, I mean you have to really put tension on the halyard and control the way you release the shits. For our new 42DS we will buy a spinnaker sock from momentum...

on my former boat, beneteau 39, i had en asymmetric spinnaker. I hoped it would be easier sailing than a symmetric one. The asymmetric can give as much trouble as the symmetric one, and on a course with back winds, it gives not very good results. So i put a symmetric on this one. You can sea pictures on my site www.sailndine.be

We have a gennaker in a sock on our SO 43 DS. It's 126 sqm and works very well on two persons. Ok , we need to hail the sock before setting, but it's pretty effortless. We have no bowsprit, but it seems to work well without. We will try more to master how to handle the gennaker before buying more equipment. Wind angle, wind force, waves and other sails set makes a interesting equation to optimize.

I have a RollGen system on my 43DS, and it works well. Since we only fly the chute when racing, it has not gotten much use. I would prefer a sock. The spinny, made by Quantum, is a solid bright yellow. If you are interested in buying it, let me know and I will send you a picture and discuss.

;D It is done.... Put on a big Asy by North and added a bowsprit. All works very well... Sock is no problem.
