Has anyone had the same experience the bilge on my SO32.2 fills with fresh water. The water system is not leaking so I am assuming that it is rainwater as it tastes and smells like fresh water

Although it has not happened to me ( I have another bilge problem that I will post) another 49DS experienced the same problem which was traced to the cockpit shower not being turned off properly.. maybe a long shot. PJ

On my 32i, there was a weeping from hose connection to the expansion tank in the pressurized water system. Only happened when using the system. Trickled down through the locker to the bilge.

This is exacerbated if the engine is running hot. Rob do you only get the fresh water after running the engine? On S034.2 rain sometimes could get in from the cockpit step then trickle through the bilge to the sump If your bilges are not currently dry, I would fully dry them out then sprinkle something like talcum powder around the limber holes etc to determine which direction the water is coming from, - I tend to suspect the pressure relief valve on the hot water tank though - in fact that might weep even if you have the immersion heater on. We have had a problem on our SO40 with rain penetrating through the mastic bedding under the forward stanchions of the pulpit and the guardrails, this leaks down behind the lining (which appears on the cabin side to be dry) and then makes its way into lockers and/or the bilge. Do have a look at this bedding especially if you have the boat in a "Wet area" best wishes from Tomina

Hi, I have the Sunfast 32i which I believe has the same floor moulding as the S) 32.2. I had the same problem of fresh water in the bilge. I sealed a piece of acrylic at the aft end of the channel at the foot of the mast (the 32i mast is keel stepped). This stopped the problem as the rain water now goes down the mast to the channel and then goes into the forward bilge by the log/echo sounder and through the small duct to the bilge withe strum box in it. I then cleaned the keel bolts and greased them. I have had no fiurther problem with water in that bilge.

Hi – I had the exact same problem for several months on my So32 until I got to the route problem. There is a hose which leads from the fresh water hot water tank to the bilge. The tank, probably a C-Warm, is fitted with a temperature pressure relief valve. When the water heats up it expands, if the pressure is too high then the valve will open and it dumps the water from the tank into the bilge. You will see the valve on top of the tank connected to a hose. If you turn it one turn anti clockwise you will see that it discharges water straight into the bilge. You are probably experiencing water in the bilge after you have run the engine for some time. How did I cure the problem? 1. I removed the pressure relief valve from the tank and cleaned it, this did not work. 2. I bought a new valve from Cleghorn Waring follow this link www.cleghorn.co.uk/pressure_systems/?ls=&v=DD79B9AB3E3F40049EECFAE0173C37A9This did not work either. 3. This fixed the problem. You should have fitted a 1 litre accumulator tank next to the fresh water pump. Apparently over time the air cushion within the accumulator tank will disappear. If there is an increase in pressure when the water heats up it cannot be absorbed by the accumulator tank and hey presto the pressure relief valve opens. To correct this; turn off power to pump. Open tap farthest from accumulator tank. Remove plug in top of accumulator tank. Loosen hose leading from fresh water pump to accumulator tank to allow air to enter accumulator tank. Replace plug on top of tank. Fit hose back on from fresh water pump. Leave the tap open and start up pump. Once the water is flowing freely switch off tap and the system should shut down automatically. All this happened at the start of last season. I have been bilge water free for at least 10 months. Hope this helps ;D
