I have a thru hull valve for my forward head that I cannot close. I have put over 500 foot pounds of pressure trying to close it to no avail. Has anyone had a similar problem? If so what did you find. My boat is located in San Diego where there is much sea growth, musscles, etc. So much so that most owners in the moorage have to have the bottoms cleaned about every 2-3 months. This is of the ball valve construction. It currently is in the open position meaning if I get boarded by the USCG it will be a substantial fine. Any Ideas? HELP,, HELP,, HELP

The fine will be nothing next to what it´ll cost to refloat your boat if you put 500# of pressure in the valve; you´ll surely break off the thru hull!
Try CRC, WD-40, JB rust blaster or similar penetrating oils let it soak for a while and try gently to open or move it. If you still don´t get results, you´ll probably have to replace the valve.

I was being a little exagerant about the foot pounds since I don't think anyone could get that much leverage in that small a space. Have already used the different lubricants. Unfortunately I don't thing the seazing is in the shaft but around the ball. My next try might be to apply a little heat to the system.... not too much so as not to melt the fiberglass or burn up the bulkhead.
Thanks for the reply
