I have a bog standard SO 42i (not the performance model). I recently took part in a race and got my IRC rating a day before the race. However since I did not have all the measurments apart from the minimum ones, my rating came back at 1.033, which is too high, I think. i have the standard Quantum Main and genoa. Anyone know the measurments to these without me having to take the sails down again?

Hi
It would seem that generally the IRC system is a bit tough on boats like the Jeanneau, but that number does not seem to be too bad. It puts you in the same league as a Dehler 36SQ, Beneteau first35 and a j 109. With good sails you would not be to far off these boats. IRC only looks at sail area and not sail material. A quality main would add a lot of speed to your boat. Look at the boats you are close to in races and check out their numbers. As a weekend racer it takes me about 2 years to get a boat sailing to its best numbers.

Agreed, Offshore, however I am basing I disagreeumption on 2 other boats who were in the same race. A Bavaria 42 with a bigger Genoa and also a Dufour 425 also with a bigger Genoa than us. they both have a rating of around 1.012. This is why I need all the measurments of my sails. So if someone actually has them it would save me the trouble of taking them down again.....which I amreally not looking forward to.....(by the way ..we beat the Dehler 36sq...which had race sails on it....and had a 10 minute head start)

Hi Mojo, If u have one week ý can send u my ýrc copy for the figures. I am out of my hometown and ý dont remember the exact figures. Our boat is 2009 model 42i (not performance model ) and first year we raced at Irc 2 and get cups but thýs year to go faster we changed our fýxed propeller with maxprop automatic feathering propeller and our ýrc increased 12 points. We upgrade to Irc 1 and won nothing up to now Let me give u same hints We have dacron sails and dacron sails getting smaller like 0.002 yearly , so u can calculate yr sails accordingly. Also put these notes to application form Furling Genoa SINGLE HEADSAILS MAXIMUM ONE SPÝNNAKER CARRIED NO SPINNAKER POLES/SPRIT (of course ýf u dont have) MAINSAIL : P: 14.85 E: 4.40 HEAD SAIL : LL: 14,98 LP: 5.88 Also if u have additional weights like new mounted battery and etc also write thm with their weights. I wish u good luck at races but ýf the crew ýs good u can beat Dufour 40 easily but no chance for sun fast 3200 , 42Ý performance , Benetau First series... ates s/y shakara

In Lake Ontario they actually make you strip the boat dry, taking everything off the boat that is removable. Then they weigh the boat. Don't they do this were you are for IRC ratings?

hi again,
As far as ý know some racing clubs ask for endorsed IRC certýfýcate which means boat must be scaled .
But our club ýs not askýng for endorsed so we declare our own additional wegihts line new mounted Battery or etc...
