Hi! I just bough a SO 40 from 1998 and the kitchen has an extra "fire" in the middle, but is not a normal fire to cook. Anyone know the purpose of this middle fire? Thanks in advance

It looks as if the galley has quite an old 2-burner cooker with a decent grill. The old models had a really good grill and always had that gap. I don't think it is a burner as such, more like a way of venting excess heat from the grill underneath and providing airflow for combustion. However, it can be used to keep a pan warm whilst grilling. That's what we did as 2 burners were a bit restricting and it was quite useful to keep a third item warm. It wasn't up to actually cooking, just warming. Our 2 burner cooker dated back to 1980 and lacked even a basic safety cut-off on the burners. I don't think it even had safety cut-outs on grill and oven. The 2009 Eno is much safer but the grill is much poorer.
