Hi Owners I just cleaned the transducer of my boat (an Airmax Smart Tri, I suppose that is a DST800) and I was aiming to calibrate the speed.
However, I noticed that, despite showing depth, speed, and water temp information, all instruments are not able to "find" the transducer in order to enable me to calibrate that.
I also noticed that the sea temp is quite low (15C ) considering the temperature I can feel (23C at least)
Do you believe the transducer is presenting a failure? Even being able to provide to SeatalkNG the information about speed (demanding calibration), depht (100% ok) , and sea temperature (looks like uncalibrated) ?

I have the DST800, I wired mine through a Raymarine ITC-5 as it gave out analog signals that needed converting to digital for the nmea 2000 , and the ITC-5 allows for transducers to be calibrated from my MFD , perhaps the newer triducer has gone fully digital.
There is also a DST810 which I believe has a signal converter built in, and comes with a 2000 cable, (it looks very similar to the 800) and this can be calibrated via the Airmar Cast App.
Best to be sure on your transducer model, ‘supposing ‘ it’s an 800 might lead to confusion.

Excelent heads up. Because , as it came with the boat, I supposed that is a DST800 just based on what I saw in the internet (based on the part number I see in the transducer as 20-633-21). However, it has a SeatalkNG cable as output. So , maybe, it is not a DST800. Once connected to my SeatalkNG network, I believe it was supposed to enable me to calibrate thru my ST70 instruments (not sure it is possible possible thru my E120W MFD) But , despite ST70 shows the data from Smart Tri , configuration options don't list the transducer when I ask to "find transducer" (ST70 find only the wind transducer). I will take a look if I get something with the app you mentioned. I am attaching a picture of the transducer (you can see the Seatak NG cable)

Also if you have a few MFD, you will probably need to select and set up one as a master from which you calibrate with, the others are then just repeaters so you can see the data, but not adjust the information, it seems a common occurrence, sure you will learn it all sooner or later, it’s a voyage of discovery.

Regarding water temperature, the original DST800 fitted to my boat began displaying very high water temps (40C!!+) within its warranty period. Raymarine replaced it and the new one was fine for a couple of years before it too displayed wild sea temperatures. I gave up on it then and use my foot instead. I did note that the total sea miles sailed reverted to zero when the new transducer was fitted.

40C would be a hurricane presage !

CB It is an interesting possibility to be better analyzed. I have one MFD (Raymarine E120-W) , 2 ST70, 1 ST70+ , and one P70. Not sure how they are configured regarding master/repeaters because I have never identified this config in the config tree. I will check. Actually, I have been trying the calibration thru the ST70, because I could not even find this option a calibration path in the E120W MFD. Thanks a lot ! BR, Marcelo

I did find when installing an i70s , i60, a tri transducer, Vesper AIS , and attaching it to a rather old C70 plotter that I kept , partly so I could use the existing old radar, (and I have two C70 plotters), that fine tuning needed to be done through the i70s, or an up to date chart plotter. Before I discovered that, I spent ages getting nowhere trying to calibrate wind through the i60 ….. being the dedicated wind display you would think it logical to do so, but the i70 can show everything windy and more, and calibrating through the i70s and just allowing the 2000 backbone to link it to the i60 fixed all troubles, quite what one does if the only new gadget on board is an i60 I am not sure.
It all seems to take study, rather than a cursory glimpse of the instructions, Raymarine, clever as they are, I do not find intuitive, too many menus within menus, long button pushes etc, but then that might just be me, I’m hopeless with a windows PC, but get on ok with Mac, my brother understands windows but Mac is a complete mystery, it’s just how the mental cogs spin I guess.
All is doable given time and study.
You may find you don’t need a dedicated MFD for calibration, it may depend on your mix of instruments, but being all Raymarine should work well enough together once the instructions are read and understood.

Hi Everyone,
It is a DST800, but with a SeaTalk ng connector. There are various flavour of the DST800.
The calibration is done on the MFD, not the ST70.
And the temperature sensor will go out... I'm on my third DST800 in 12 years... The depth and speed are working great, but the temperature is slowly increasing, which is a sign... I'm on 35C currently... I've seen over 90C on the last one!
I believe the DST800 with SeaTalk ng is now discontinued. You will need to get a DST810... If you want the SeaTalk ng one, the part number is E70667
Hope it helps, Cheers, Allegria
