I just purchased a 2003 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40. I love the boat, however, at anchor in all but the calmest conditions, the sea surface slaps constantly under the stern swim step platform. Occasionally, like more than once per minute, when the sea surface hits squarely against the hull, the slapping is more like pounding. As a result, sleeping in the aft cabin while at anchor is a challenge. Have you any suggestions on how to correct the problem while at anchor? Thank you for your thoughts!!

You can purchase an inflatable cushion to go under the transom. Called Sleaper and marketed by Plastimo. Force 4 sell them in 3,5,7m sizes Cost £164-£314

I tried to put two fenders near the waterline, one on each side of the rudder, and noticed a definite reduction in noise, maybe worth a try

I have the same "problem" with my Sun Legende with the swim platform. I´ve just learned to live with it but I´ve seen the inflatable Plastimo cushion advertised and it would seem to work, although the price seems kind of high. Good Luck!

:-) Same problem here on my Sun Legend. I tried sleeping in the rear cabin once. Didn't sleep all night. My eldest son usually sleeps there. He fallsd asleep while listening to his ipod. Go figure. I've seen someone use a foam (type of foam use for those floating pool noodles) cushion.

Hey danny! How´s your sailing season and what did you finally end up doing with the lift keel? After bleeding my hydraulic system everything has been working OK so far (knock wood!). Any plans to sail in the Caribbean yet? By the way I posted a picture of my boat on the photo gallery - "uhuru". Best regards!

Notorious, The keel problem is all fixed and working well. The boat was lifted and put in the water about 3 weeks ago. At that time I was able to give it a fianl bleeding and everything was fine. It stayed inside. Sailing hasn't started yet. We motored the boat down to it's summer marina. But the weather is lousy, rain and no wind. Should be same conditions for this weekend. I Hope you've got good weather.

So far, so good! I´m getting ready for my yearly vacation to the Virgin Islands in July. I´m considering sailing first to St. Croix and from there to the BVI´s , avoiding the straight upwind leg from where I am to St. Thomas since my wife doesn´t really care too much for that leg of the trip!. My son´s flying from California (Santa Barbara) to join me and my other son might come here from TAhiti. He sailed to the MArquesas from Manzanillo (after sailing the boat down there from Ventura) and then to Tahiti on his way (eventually) to New Zealand. He´s sailing a Halberg Rassy 53 which he´s delivering there for the owner. Meanwhile I have to slave here at the office! Well, I hope the weather there improves so that you can enjoy your wonderful boat. I checked out your saling grounds on the net and it sure is beautiful; too bad it´s so cold! Fair Winds!

Don't rub it in. It's Saturday right now, i'm home instead of on the boat. It' raining still, flood warning winthin certain area of the province of Quebec and nothern New England. We're not sailing this weekend that's for sure. Our long term plans are to eventually take our boat down to your region of the world. With 3 kids still in elementary and high school, we don't think it'll happen very soon. I wish your time at the office goes by quickly so you can gat on your boat and enjoy the islands.

Danny, I practically raised my 4 kids on a boat! They´re all grown up now and I´m crewless (my current wife doesn´t go much for sailing) but I look forward to summers when my kids visit and we can sail together. Hey, don´t feel too bad about the weather, once it clears you have a beautiful saling area to enjoy. Also, whenever you plan to visit down here, you know you have a friend in Puerto Rico. Fair Winds (and less rain!)
