Harken 40 Winch help - Removing Drum to begin lubrication

Last year purchased my first sailboat, a 1997 Sun Odyssey 36.  Sailed all summer and really enjoy the boat.  The winches proved to be a bit tight and need to be lubricated.   Watched the videos, and started to try to remove the drum, by unscrewing the socket head screw, assembly socket and PT spacer which came out no problem.    From here i thought the drum would just slip up and off, but it wont budge.  Before  applying anymore pressure anywhere, I wanted to see if I can get advice.  thanks so much.

Sounds like you are there on the disassembly, here is a PDF of what I think is the same winch, seems to indicate you have it to the point the drum should come off:

Do you think anything else has to be unscrewed and removed like the stripper arm assembly?

The drum wont budge.

I think you still need to unscrew the 4 bolts mounting the drum to the winch. You need to take off the black top plastic to expose those screws. If you look at the picture below in the top left you can see the metal stripper top with 6 holes for the bolts - in this model they only need to be loosened to turn the assembly far enough to let it be lifted out.

The stripper arm should come off once the top screw and spacers are out, thus exposing the four cap screws holding the upper jaw on. Once those our off the drum should slide up.

Hi, I’ve just serviced the winches (Harken Classic 40) on my SO34.2 (1998) so could be quite similar.
I removed the central bolt and the drum wouldn't shift. I ended up gently levering it up with a broad screwdriver and it gradually came off. I didn't need to remove the 4 bolts under the self tailing ring but may I may have different winches.

The reason they wouldn't come off was years of grease and grime just wedged them on the shaft.
