We are testing a spinnaker on our 419 with a sock system (not furling). I notice that our spinnaker halyard goes through a halyard lead/eye just below the top of the mast. The eye appears to be attached with 2 rivets, and below the eye is a vertical ring (see photo). Are we supposed to mount a block on the ring for flying a spinnaker/gennaker? It appears to be required for a code zero because of the additional loads, but I dont find any mention of it for a spinnaker. Seems like just being held on with 2 rivets, the halyard lead would not be too strong which is why I wanted to ask about other peoples experiences. So to be clear and simple with the question - can I just hoist the spinnaker with the rig as is, or am I supposed to mount a block on the ring below the halyard lead? Thanks!

Yes, it looks like the lower padeye is meant to take the load. It is at the black band which marks max hoist for the sails. That said, fairleads like the top one are not uncommon for halyards. It is hard to say how strong it is from the pic.

I did find this seldon manual, which suggests it’s ok to just have it on the halyard lead, but the one in the seldon manual has 4 bolts holding it on the mast whereas we only have 2 rivets. Maybe I’ll put a block on there anyway support.seldenmast.com/files/1380900682/595-718-E.pdf
