Hi All, Just joined the forum after buying my first boat! A Sun Odyssey 34.2 (1998) :-)
Will be spending the winter repairing and refitting various parts as she hasn't been used for a while and needs a little TLC.
First job: removing the sails... any advice/guidance for someone who has never done this before?
Cheers Dave

Welcome aboard!
I also have a 34.2, berthed in Malta. We have the two cabin version which is lovely!
Can you explain what the problem is with the sails, roller main etc and then we will all pile in and help.
Mike

Hi, Malta is a lovely place - I worked out there a few years ago.
Mine is the 3 cabin version as we have two grown up kids (boy & girl) who aren't happy about sharing anymore.
Regarding the mainsail, there's no problem (that I know of) - I just don't know how to remove the sails! :-\
Its a non-furling type (i.e. sliders/cars that go up and down the mast) and has a stack-pack fitted. I'm not sure of what should come off first, how the sail comes off the sliders/cars, and which end of the boom the sail slides out from etc etc
I'm sure it'll become obvious once I'm back on the boat but was just wondering if anyone had any tips/advice?
Cheers Dave

Congratulations on the new boat with the interesting name. As is your forum id, which could either be Chinese for "doctor" or, if the characters used are different, mean "big wind" in Japanese

Yeah, the boat is named after Cornish legend, and there is a real village called Zennor!
I can't claim any clever play on words on my forum name I'm afraid - I found a 'your name in Chinese' web site, and used that.
Doesn't Zanshin mean 'The art of focused attention while calm', or similar?

I didn't know such sites existed (the "Your name in Chinese")! I grew up in Japan and practice something called Aikido and the concept of "Zanshin" is an important one in that art as well as other martial arts. Plus the name was short and nobody had it on a U.K. flagged boat
