Hi,
Considering a vessel with twin 2014 Volvo Penta D3-200A-G diesel motors. (200HP) and stern drives. Engines have under 300 hours on them.
Seller revealed that the prior deal fell through due to elevated Iron and Chromium (edited) levels in the oil analysis.
Looking for some guidance from the great community here.
How much of a concern should this be? What could the root cause be? Is this indicative of other issues? What else? Has anyone experienced or dealt with this? If it is an issue, what's involved in fixing it? (time, money, and waht needs to be done?)
Iron levels are 250 on one, 275 on the other. Chromium are ~19 on both.
Thank you!

As a quick update to this in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation: Our diesel mechanic "read the tea leaves" and explained that such low hour engines are almost certainly still shedding their metals, not quite as bad a would be seen in the "break-in" oil, but similarly, and that we shouldn't worry. We went ahead with the purchase and are now proud owners of an NC11!
If you find yourself in a similar situation I'm happy to chat/discuss and/or put you in touch with our diesel mechanic who is excellent. Note that he does charge for his time for these conversations but it was an hour-long phone call which was like getting through a firehose a PhD in oil analysis and well worth it!
Safe boating, everyone!

Good to hear what the professional thought about it. I had read your original post, but I am but an amateur, I think that the figures given, being very close to each other means that the engines are likely settling in / wearing out at the same rate, which is what you would expect and hope for. Enjoy your boat CB
