Hello, my aluminum hand grab broke at the bolt location to the pedestal. Very poor design. Has anyone replaced this aluminum with stainless. Do I need to have a contractor bend a new one to fit. Should I stay aluminum. Also I see some have increased to size of the throttle tubing to prevent braking the cables. Any hints or suggestions appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response, I will, unfortunately it won’t be until Oct when the boats comes out for the winter here.

Did the grab rail itself break? Or did the bolt break or come loose?
my 2002 SO37 has stainless grab rail (from the attached picture, yours appears to be stainless also). When I purchased my boat in 2016 one of the bolts had failed which made the grab rail useless. It was an easy fix to replace the bolt and as long as the bolts are snug I feel the grab rail is pretty adequate.

Likewise on my 2002 SO37 the grab rail is stainless steel, and I agree with capnbrian that yours is probably stainless. If you have a good welder in your boatyard, I would have it welded instead of replacing it.

Greetings to my replies. This one is aluminum unfortunately so I’m going to try and have one made from stainless. seems the bolt hole has weakened that point and it snapped like a twig. I’m going to replace in stainless. thank you for the response.
