I have a MF805 with anchor windlass and wired remote control at foredeck. I want to have a switched control at the helm. Looking at the windlass relay there is an orange cable which goes to nothing but I guess will go back to the helm area. Can I use this to install a switched circuit somehow?

Well no response to this post and after contacting Jeannaeu direct they have no clue what this factory fitted cable is either. They suggested it was an after market fitment but it is easily seen this was fitted at the factory. The boat was bought direct from Jeanneau and I have the records of the windlass being included. So their records are not very good. Guess I will run new cables and do it that way.

I agree that Jeanneau should be able to provide you with details on every accessory item that they installed. Brand, part and serial number. But, to help you, can you find an information tag on your windlass with the manufacturer’s information. Contacting them or finding the installation manual online might provide an explanation for your orange wire.

Cannot comment re the orange wire, but you should be able to run a cable and set up a parallel up/down switch in the cockpit for your winch. I have a hardwired handheld switch at the bow (used predominantly), a switch arrangement in the cockpit (rarely used) and a backup wireless handheld switch. All wired in parallel. You just need to make sure only one of these is used at the same time.

Thanks guys. The label on the winch cannot be seen as it is hard up against the hull but I have the documentation of the winch options and wiring diagrams. There is no use for this Orange cable as far as I can see but it is clearly installed by Jeanneau. I have the deck remote and this is the black cable going to the relay and fuse block. So now I have run cables from the relay block to mirror the deck remote back to the helm area. There is a route without drilling any holes. (Any MF805 owners can PM me for instructions). Once the switch arrives I can connect up with power supply from the main fuse supplies behind the helm. I don't think I need an interlock as unless you plug in the deck remote control lead it is not possible to have both working at the same time.
I guess I won't be asking Jeanneau for any help in future.

The orange able was probably part of a wiring loom installed by Jeanneau, and not used in this instance. I have a few extra wires in my boat that are not used, eg for fans in the saloon. It should be detailed on the wiring diagram for your boat. Rob

The odd wire might go to a hall sensor on the windlass for a chain counter.

Final update on this mystery..... Jeanneau have checked their build records and this cable was never fitted to this boat. So much for their records which are clearly wrong and worthless.

I understand the desire to be able to control the windlass at the helm.
However, i do like to be able to be on the foredeck to make sure it operates smoothly and stop if it jams, especially when the chain and anchor rode are attached.

Not sure if you can tell from the tiny picture above but you can control the windlass from anywhere as long as you are within 30 metres from it. It uses a coded wireless transmitter
