We have just bought a 2016 NC9, which we are very pleased with. However, in every photograph that I have seen of the engine access hatch open, there is a large slab of black sound insulation material fixed to the underside of the hatch.
Ours does not have that and I can't see any trace of unused fixings, or old adhesive, etc. Was it some sort of an extra when the boat was purchased new?
Thanks in advance for any information -- Nick.

Hi Nick, we have a 2016 NC11 and same thing. No isolation slab under the hatch and on many photos from other boats there is one. I must say that we do not miss it, the standard sound isolation performs well and sound is very acceptable, especially when doors are closed. Most sound comes from the water under the platform 😁.

Hi Hanzel and thank you for your reply. Yes, it does look as if there never was any fitted and thanks for the tip about closing the doors -- never thought of that as we always run with them open.
One other thing, you mention the "standard sound insulation" and I just wondered where/what that was.
Regards, Nick.

Hi Nick, the wall between the engine room and the aft cabin and storage places, is at engine room side covered with sort of thick black rubber sound shield. This reduces the sound of the engines inside to a very acceptable level. For the rest no sound shields. br Hans

Thanks Hanzel. The engine bay layout on the NC9 is different, it being a smaller boat with a single engine, but I now know where to look!
Regards, Nick.

our NC11 came with absorption under the hatch.
Look up Megasorber, its what Palm Beach yachts here in Oz use.
Something similar is available in any country.
A deadener like Dynamat is also effective in lowering teh sound, so while its still teh same dB, it sounds quieter.
