Tested my bilge pump, it made noises but didn’t pump any water, it was working a year ago, ….. not good with my history of sinking boats so I ordered a service kit.
Refurbing one of these pumps is easy, and took about an hour including taking some snaps to share, they are also used to empty the shower on some Jeanneau boats.
Writing this as a ‘preview’ for anyone who hasn’t seen inside one , has one that doesn’t work, and is contemplating fixing it.
As an added incentive, at the time of writing, the full repair kit is around £50, ….. a new pump with motor is about £260.
Here I have a non working pump with model numbers.
4 screws and it’s off
two screws and a grub screw on the cam separates the motor from the pump
Unscrew the 4 pozi screws to remove the motor bracket and then lift off the con rod complete with diaphragm.
revealing the horrors within causing the malfunction.
flip the pump over and remove the screw in the centre, and a big rubber seal can be lifted out.
the valve discs and centre retaining plate also just lift out, but remember which way up they are for reassembling.
The new kit has this in it, only one diaphragm washer so don’t throw away both your old ones yet.
Diaphram removal
Give all a good clean and re assemble
Take a little care to centralise the diaphragm and orientation of the con rod to how it was when you took it apart.
Nip up grub screw onto the shaft flat
And re attach to boat and hoses, and the jobs done.
Leaving you with 1 new anti vibration rubber and one long new screw included with the kit ………. quite why they decided to include one of each instead of 4 I have no idea.
Hope this is useful to someone.
